community schools questions and answers

Q: What can two competitive schools do together to help the community in a quickly developing city?
We have two schools here who are both owned by the same company but are VERY competitive with each other. Anyways we are situated in Dubai, was wondering what can we do together in the high school sections to help out with the community? It would be nice to give a couple of suggestions please :)
A: hold a charity soccer game, you can give ticket proceeds to a local charity and the game will be a great way for the schools to compete
Q: Do medical schools accept post-baccalaureate credits from a community college?
I have a bachelors degree in the Arts but have decide to make a giant change-over in careers to medicine. I've taken science courses at a community college to prep for nursing school...but decided on Med School instead. Will Medical Schools accept these credits or do they really want a university post-baccalaureate program. It only matters for financial reasons.
A: They view taking community college sciences after your have a bachelor's as trying to get easy grades. They prefer university courses. If you've already taken the classes, check with the med schools you're interested in as to whether they'll even consider them. If they will, you won't be considered as competitive as students who took them at a university, but it's still worth applying. Your best bet is to get a practice book or two for the MCATs and review until you make top scores on the practice exams. That should help convince them that you have the science knowledge and that the grades weren't good just because they came from a community college.
Another option, if you don't get into med school, is to go to nursing school and then to med school. Or consider pharmacy school.
Q: What do 1st tier law schools think of students who started at a community college?
What do the 1st tier law schools think of applicants who started at community colleges and transferred to 4 yr schools to get their undergrad degree?
A: Where you spent your first two years of undergraduate education has no bearing whatsoever on the law school admission process.
The difficulty of your studies has some bearing - we like engineers, for example.
Of course, your LSAT is critical.
What are you bringing to the school? Have you done anything interesting with your life? We recently admitted a young man who had a plumber's license, over "just school" candidates who had slightly higher GPAs and LSAT scores.
Q: what is the differnce between private schools and community schools in ireland?
A: Private schools run themselves - they get no help from the government, but charge the students between 2500 - 6000 euro a year to join
Community schools are funded by the government, students pay nothing.
Private schools have much smaller classes. I went to private school, and there was an average of 14 per class. Community schools have up to 30 in a class.
Q: What is a good outlying community in the greater sacramento area in regards to good schools, good community...
feel, decent housing, and amenities and shopping close by? I would be open to areas within Sacramento too. Also need to know what the average property taxes can range from.
yeah, I checked out davis and the housing is more $$$. When looking in Sacramento, it looks like the Natoma park area looks nice and I am assuming it has shopping convenience without having to drive across town to the target.
A: Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Roseville, San Juan School district is very good. Lots of shopping areas, Sunrise Mall in Citrus heights, Gallaria Mall in Roseville, everything is close and convenient.. Lots of restaurants to pick from, fast food and regular sit down type. Close to Lake Natoma and Folsom lake, Close to the American River and the bike trails.
Property taxes are based on the value of the house, so that is hard to say. But housing is very good. I have lived in Orangevale for 30 years. It is just 5-10 minutes away from Citurs Heights and Roseville, and I never have any reason to go downtown to Sacramento proper. Low crime area, Citrus Heights just got their own Police force about 2 years ago and they are really cracking down on getting rid of any unsavory
part of the population. Very quiet and peaceful. But close to everything.
Q: Do Grad Schools Look At Community College Grades?
I am a community college student who is interested in transferring on to a UC and possibly a grad school after. I have a few grades my freshmen year that I am not too proud of. We'll these affect my application to possibly a Law School?
A: Yes they look at them all, although weigh the higher division ones more. How much it would impact your acceptance is hard to tell. I got an F in a community college PE class of all things (long story) and had to explain that every time. Yesh.
Q: Are community college mechanic schools a good way to learn more about cars?
I'm looking into taking a class, i don't want to be a mechanic or anything. I'd just like to learn more about cars, and how they work, and how to fix things, etc. Has anyone taken such a class before? If so, do they expect you to know a lot or will they work with a newbie like me? And overall did you find the classes helpful?
A: Yes. and in a lot of cases the community college classes are actually preferred to big names like lincoln tech, wyotech, etc. especially if you were intending to be a mechanic someday most community colleges offer factory specific courses which dealerships much prefer to the big name schools
Q: How does music unite cultures between our schools and community?
A: ...
it doesn't
Q: Would MEDICAL schools look down on community college classes?
I am doing my first year at a community college before I transfer to a four-year college. Would medical schools look down on thos classes at community college?
My CC honors program has put people in places like Yale, Columbia, Cornell JHU nad all of those.
If I get in one of the aforementiooned schools, I guess I be OK, but If I dont would that hurt my chances?
Thank You.
I am minority if that helps (Latino)
A: Med schools know there are good reasons to take classes at community colleges. They are, of course, less expensive, but they also have smaller class sizes, so there is a good chance students will get more individualized attention. Students also use community colleges to complete the basics but do more focused work in their fields later at four-year schools.
We often get the message the community colleges are lesser colleges, but in fact, they're great for many reasons and a good stepping stone to fabulous four-year schools and beyond.
Q: Role of schools and teachers in the community?
What are your thoughts on the role of schools and teachers in the community?
A: Great question.
First and foremost, the role of schools and teachers is to provide an appropriate education in a physically and emotionally safe environment to the students they seve.
Their secondary role is to promote education as a community priority - basically, PR.
Q: can schools give community service as punishment?
my friend got in trouble and the Two Rivers school in Hartford CT gave him 10 hours of community service, can they do that?
A: It's a brilliant incentive for behaving eh?
Good on the Two Rivers!
