Q: Can I go to a charter school in another city?
Well since I don't think I can be homeschooled, I found a charter school that looks promising. Can I go to it, without living in that city for free?
A: I am pretty sure you can. You will need to be driven to school or take public transportation however
Q: I got enrolled in a independant studies at a charter school?
So i don't understand how this is possible from what i've read independent studies is home schooling so i can i be in both?
its independent studies at a charter school please help because im so confused
A: A charter school *is* a public school. You are not homeschooling, which is a private school option in most states. A charter school (virtual of offline) is doing "public school at home", not homeschooling.
A charter school sets the curriculum you use (or has a list to choose from), sets your school year, and have a certified teacher for oversight. None of that happens in homeschooling. In HS'ing the parents (w/ student input) choose a curriculum (or no curriculum), they set the schedule (abiding by your state laws), and they do all the teaching and oversight.
Q: Can a charter school legally charge ($150) parents for not volunteering?
My sister's charter school (which is still a public school) is charging parents who do not volunteer at least 30 hours of their time to the school. Is this legal? If more details are needed, feel free to ask.
A: There's probably a contract the parents signed on enrolling their children there that told them they were required to volunteer or else be charged a fee. If they signed the paper they knew what they were getting into.
If the parents were never informed that wouldn't be fair, but I have seen pages in the registration packet that mention the volunteer requirement.
Q: Should I send my son to a charter school?
My son is petty smart and needs to be challanged more. Some people recommend that I put him in a charter school when he gets into the 7th grade. He would go until at least 9th grade. The school I was looking into has 10 hour schools day. School starts at 7:30 am and extends until 5:30 pm. They have 1.5 hours PE and classes like fine arts, computer...
They also have a required summer session that last for a month and a half. There will be lots of fields trips and other educational activities. I'm a little worried it might be too much school, but at the same time it works well with our work schedule. I will of course leave it up to him, but once he chooses I will not let him switch until the next year. Anyones child go to one?
A: Ask your son if he really wants to spend 10 hours at school with a wide range of subjects
If his not interested, its best to support his decision
Forcing him may get to arguments or by the time he grows older he may regret the decision and want to be like the other kids.
See what career direction he wants to lead to.
Its best to leave him at a normal school you may find that he will have good grades, be happier and still suceed in life
Q: How would i get my high school which is a charter school...to get a basketball team ?
How would i get my high school witch is a charter school...to get a b-ball team ? my schools name is new urban and its a charter school in oak grove , oregon. there are about 30 people that like to play basketball at our school.... how would i get a team going?
A: Ask your principal. Ask teachers if any of them would be willing to sponsor or work with a team.
Q: Do you plan on sending your kids or do you send your kids to a private, public, or charter school?
Do you plan on sending your kids or do you send your kids to
a) Private Religious School
b) Private non-religious school
c) Boarding school
d) Public School
e) Charter School
f) Homeschool
And why did you choose that form of education?
A: I plan on starting my kid out homeschooling if I can, or in a charter school if something prevents me. When my child is ready for high school, I'm going to let them choose a school outside the home, and send them there if I can afford it.
Basically, I'm planning on doing this because I want my child to be in the habit of wanting to learn and being a self-starter, plus I don't want them to waste their time when they're starting out waiting for 30 other kids to all be on the same page, but at the same time I just don't feel capable of teaching a kid everything a high schooler needs to know.
Q: do you need a teaching licence to teach at a charter school?
Im looking into being an art teacher but i dont have a teaching licence- but i do have a BA in fine arts. Do charter schools require licences?
A: Depends on the school. The one I work at doesn't. I am currently in a Master's program with teacher certification, but didn't start that until this year. Prinicipal hired me with just substitute teaching experience.
Q: Should I sent my son to a charter type school?
My son is petty smart and needs to be challanged more. Some people recommend that I put him in a charter school when he gets into the 7th grade. He would go until at least 9th grade. I will of course leave it up to him, but once he chooses I will not let him switch until the next year. Anyones child go to one?
A: You need to be careful with this-some charters are good, but many are for profit companies just in it for the money. They look great on the outside, but have little substance. Also, most use non-union teachers, who may or not be, certified.
Q: Why would someone have to go to a charter school?
Why would someone have to go to a charter school?
A: Lots of reasons... Here are just a few:
-they got kicked out of their old school for being bad
-they got picked on too much at their old school
-they are really stupid
-they are really smart
-their parents have a weird religion
