Q: Why is it that day schools close when it snows but but boarding schools don't?
I find this extremely unfair having gone to a boarding school and having to still go to lessons in freezing classrooms while kids at other schools got the day off. I mean, its more inconvenient for day schools to be off as the parents have to stay at home, at a boarding school this wouldnt be a problem as we would just stay in our dorms? Any thoughts? I know location wise it makes sense but is still unfair when the other schools get to be off. My school was a day school as well as a boarding school and the day girls still had to come in regardless. Us boarders were there already. They NEVER had the heating on in classrooms! lol

A: The staff of boarding schools mostly live on the premises, or else are obliged by the school rules to live within a very short distance. All the staff of the public school in my village are obliged to live in the village itself. For exactly this reason. The pupils, after all, will all be on the spot, so they'd have nothing to do if staff couldn't get to work. Or else parents would have to drive long distances in snow to fetch them - which of course they couldn't do anyway. Terms at public schools are anyway shorter, so you benefit in many ways.

Q: Any ideas on how to get off the Choate rosemary Hall waitlist? Applying for Boarding schools.?
I applied to several boarding schools, and was rejected to teo of them, accepted to four or five and waitlisted at the Choate. Any ideas on how to get off the waitlist?

A: hey, i got waitlisted too its important to remember that waitlisting is acception without room, they could fill their class 4 or 5 times over. it also isn't about grades or scores. for example, they are looking for socio-economic diversity and people from all over. i am a boarder prospective, but i live near the school,, and there are a lot of kids like me. therefor, i may have btter scores, but someone wh had less good scores from rural indiana could have gotten in. write a letter, and send in new grades. this will show them that you are interested. then you gotta wait, it may take a while. no pressure. 1700 kids applied. there are only a few spots

Q: Where can I find a list of boarding schools for Europe and Australia?
I'm going to be a High school student, and I'd like to find a boarding school willing to accept me. The countries are Italy preferably Milan, France, England and Australia. I want the school to be fun at the same time and not so uptight, because that's the whole reason I want to go to boarding school. To have fun, learn about a culture, make friends and at the same time have a learning experience. And also if possible a list of programs where I can participate in High school classes and learn in the same countries listed above during the months of April to May.

A: Most boarding schools in Australia are single-sex schools. (Assuming your a girl), some top boarding schools are: 1. Calrossy- Anglican Day and Boarding Secondary School for girls located in Northern New South Wales in Tamworth. 2. St Hilda's Anglican School for Girls- Perth, Western Australia is located on a beuatiful campus on Perth's Swan River. 3. Loreto Normanhurst- an independent Catholic secondary boarding and day school for girls, situated in Normanhurst, Sydney, NSW.

Q: Can anyone find any boarding schools that you pay monthly?
I want to go to a boarding school and my parents MAY be able to afford it, just not in a lump sump.what schools can you pay monthly at?

A: Schools won't let you pay monthly, but some might offer need based scholarships and payment plans. Good luck. Just remember something... boarding school isn't really like what you see in the movies, so make sure you really want to go before spending so much money. Save it for college.

Q: What are the pros and cons of boarding schools?
I have a 13 year-old daughter. I am divorced. Her Mom wants to send our daughter to a boarding school for her high school years because of the educational opportunites. I am concerned it will separate me from my daughter too much, and that she will be influenced in the wrong way. Also, I'm concerend about unsupervised relationships with boys. If you have a daughter who has gone through a boarding high school in the United States, please reply. Thanks!

A: i go to boarding school and honestly it as not as bad as all the horror stories make it out to seem. it's not as if you're sending your daughter out to fend for herself, there are staff and teachers whose job it is to make sure that your child comes to no harm. make sure your daughter is confident enough in herself not to get mixed up in the wrong crowd and definitly talk things through with her about where she personally stands on issues like peer pressure, alcohol, etc. the fact is, boarding school is honestly an amazing oppurtunity but if you feel that she won't adjust to it or is simply not ready for it don't go there because it really is her home away from home and she will be spending a great deal of time there. one plus about boarding school is it really makes you independent and it prepares you so well for university. if you are worried about unsupervised relationships with boys i advise that you do not sent her to an all-girls school because (and i go to a co-ed school) i have seen that kids who go to a single sex school are far more likely to indulge in risky behaviors with those of the opposite sex because they are so seperated from them in their school life. most importantly make sure that's really what she wants because she is the one who is going to have to deal with it. oh and someone tried to lay a guilt trip on you in an earlier response, don't fall into that. people send their children to boarding school for a variety of reasons, not because they want to get rid of them. and majority of these kids turn out just fine with guidance from their dorm parents and from their real parents. i call my parents and e-mail every day. just because i'm away at school doesn't mean they're not a part of my life! hope i helped!

Q: What are the best affordable top rated boarding schools?
Great boarding school for a 15 year old boy that plays basketball(big interest for him) and he is not a troubled teenager, his parents just want to send him to boarding school for higher academic achievements.

A: This is a difficult question to answer, since selecting a boarding school is a personal matter. What might be the right school for your child may be inappropriate for another child. In order to help you make this important decision I recommend a book called The Greenes' Guide to Boarding Schools by Howard and Matthew Greene C2006. Page 44 of this book has a list of criteria for you to review and a comprehensive list of resources to help you. Q: Are there any boarding schools for troubled female teen in Arizona?
I have a 15 year old grandaughter and she would like to pursue her schooling in a disciplined evironment such as a military school, or a boot camp etc. It would have to be a boarding school of type because she can't live with me. I live in a seniors only condo. I can't afford alot but want the best for her since she has experienced some traumatic things.

A: Do be very, very careful where she ends up. A lot of boarding schools are just that, boarding schools. But there are "therapeautic boarding schools" where children are tortured regularly. Do some SERIOUS investigative work before you send her anywhere.
