Q: What are the best universities/med schools to become an oncologist?
I want to become a pediatric oncologist or possibly a radiation oncologist. What are the best schools for this? And will I have time for a family while going through med school and interning?
A: Hon, you'll barely have time to *eat* while going through med school/internship.
All the top med schools are good for oncology. And the best one is the one at which you are accepted. Competition for admission to med school is stiff.
Q: What would be the best schools to enroll into in Santa Barbara if I want to major in biology?
It's all explanatory in the title. I want to go to college in Santa Barbara, and I was wondering what would be the best schools to try and get into (that aren't religious, no offense to anyone) if I want to major in biology.
A: santa barbara only has one univeristy, UCSB, and one community college( santa barbara cc). UCSB is a very good school and pretty competitive to get into, although not as competitive as other UC's. they have good science programs over there especially biology because they are close to the beach. do some research on the school see what it's like
good luck.

Q: What are some of the best schools in Europe?
I would like to attend college in Europe, and I want to know which ones are the best to apply to. Also are there any other tests I would need to take. I have already taken the ACT but are there international tests to take or will they take those scores. Please tell me the BEST schools, in academics, reputation and everything. I would like examples from most of the countries in Europe and also I plan to major in Pre-Med or Biochemistry if there are any colleges that specialize in those majors, or are widely known to produce good Medical school applicants.
A: In UK:
Biological Sciences are the best in Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial College London. Same first two go fo Chemistry, although Durham is also worth checking out.
The usual entrance requirements are A-levels or comparable, with some restrictions on what subjects you should have taken.
In Netherlands:
Universities Utrecht (university college utrecht), Delft.
Requirements are the subjects taken (e.g. Biology, usually, advanced Math, etc).and english proficiency.
In Switzerland:
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. It is more practise oriented, and the requirement to Bachelor studies include the analogue to the Swiss "Matricula", see the website http://www.admission.ethz.ch/bachelor/first/foreign_qual
and fluent German.
Germany:
Technische Universiteit Munich
Great programs for Bio-related sciences, although in German. Requirements similar to Switzerland.

Q: What are the best business schools in America?
I just found out today that I'm too late to buy the "Best 237 Business Schools" by Princeton Review. Q: what areas of the country have the best elementary schools?
i didn't say state because it depends on where you go in some states. my son starts kindergarten next year and we are thinking of moving away from ft. lauderdale to somewhere where the schools are really good. does anyone know of a good recent list of some of the best schools?
A: I hate to say it, but the schools in the more wealthy counties of each state tend to have the better schools, due to parental involvement and just plain demand for good education. Places like Montgomery and Howard counties in Maryland have a rep for good schools at all levels due to a wealthier demographic (in fact, many Washington DC political players live in Montgomery county). There are places like that in every state...look for median income and go to that state's dept. of education website and look for stats on national standardized testing scores. should be a good indication.
Q: What is the best way to search for graduate schools?
I want to get my masters in either English, Media Studies, Media Criticism, or Journalism. I used collegeboard.com to search for my undergraduate school, but I have no clue how to go about what the best schools are for masters. Any ideas?
A: There is only one way to choose graduate programs to which to apply:
1) Research faculty. Make sure you select a list of programs with faculty who are widely published and have international reputations in their field. Their research interests MUST also dovetail with your own, or you will be rejected out of hand because of "lack of fit." This means that you must have a good idea about what you'd like to study at the graduate level. It's not like college, where you "find yourself" as you go on. For example, if you wish to study Chaucer using postmodern feminist methodologies, you must find departments that have Chaucerian scholars, and scholars who employ feminist methodologies. (METHOD and THEORY are critical at the graduate level. Know something about your own methodological preferences, and the state of theory in your field before you even begin to consider graduate study.)
2) Follow the Money. After you apply to a good variety of programs that are good fits for your research interests, you should receive some acceptances. The general rule is to "follow the money." This means that you weigh the ranking of each program against the support you will be receiving. If you are receiving no support from a program that is highly ranked in your discipline and for your subfield, but you are awarded an assistantship or fellowship by a program that is ranked just below that one, you take the second one. That's how it works.
If you are wondering what the best programs are in your field and subdiscipline, first, research faculty. Then, ask your former professors. We all know what the best programs are in our own fields.
I wish you every success.
Q: What are the best SUNY schools to go to?
I currently attend Nassau Community College and I would like to transfer out to a SUNY school for my sophomore year. What are the best SUNY schools to go to for a person with intentions on majoring in the sciences such as pre-med or bio and planning on attending medical school?
A: Since your goal is medical school, I want you to get into a tier 1 or 2 university - something in the top 150 or so of the universities in the US. This will make it more likely that you'll have a shot at med school. Thus, of the SUNYs, I recommend, and in this order:
- SUNY Binghamton - my #1 choice for you
- SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (if that fits your interests)
- SUNY Stony Brook
Those would be my top choices for you. Those are the strongest SUNYs, and academic strength of your undergrad program does come into play re: med school admissions. So if you like any of those schools, apply. If you get in, go. Because after that there's a gap, and then follows:
- SUNY College of Arts & Sciences, Geneseo
- SUNY, University at Buffalo (*NOT* Buffalo State, but U at Buffalo specifically)
Two good schools, will not hamper your med school applications if you went there. Then there is a gap, and follows:
- CUNY Baruch (I know that's CUNY, not SUNY, but it's public)
- SUNY College of Arts & Sciences, New Paltz
And then I won't list the rest of the SUNYs, because you'd stand a better chance of getting into med school if you go to one of the above schools and do well, than if you go to another SUNY or CUNY. Not that you *can't* go to Hunter or Fredonia or Queens and get into med school, but if you can get into one of the above, it'll be better for you re: admissions.
And you want to get into the best ranked of those that you can, considering fit as well, naturally. I mean, if you like Stony Brook, and get into it and Binghamton, but Stony Brook fits you better (and thus you'll probably do better there), then go to Stony Brook.
One of the things you can and should ask of potential universities is what percentage of their medical school applicants actually get in. That can be a telling statistic, and helpful to you as you search for a uni that fits your career goals.
In addition, don't major in pre-med. In fact, most universities won't allow it. You need to major in something else - could be bio, or another science. Heck, could be English. You'd major in English, for example, and *also* be pre-med. Pre-med is a system of advisement, not a major. Your major is your choice, and it won't hinder your med school applications were you to major in English instead of bio.
Major in something you like, so you'll do well in it. Make sure you take the pre-med pre-req classes that med schools require. And do the volunteer work they want. Speak to the pre-med advisor as soon as you get on campus.
Q: What are some of the best journalism schools?
