Q: How does arts affect a student's overall education? (HELP NEEDED REALLY BADLY!)?
I have an essay, and kill me, I procrastinated. So I have 4 hours to create the most amazing rough copy of an essay on why arts affects a students education. HEEEEEELP! Any ideas on how to start off the topic sentence for the thesis?

A: Art effects peoples lives because of _____, ______, and _______ fill in the blanks :-) If all else fails.... MAKE IT UP!..... It is not the final draft so you can ALWAYS go back and edit it.

Q: A student in education at a university in Washington is being threatened with expusion for being a?
conservative. In what way does this further the university's education department? What does this tell us about upper level education in this country? Why should my tax dollars go to schools that preach liberalism? When did being a liberal become a college requirement?

A: another reason I despise the left in this country. As long as you fit their LEFTIST agenda then everything is A-OK.. BTW, he/she could sue big time and WIN!

Q: What happens if a general education student in third grade fails the state exams?
I need to know as I have a friend who is in third grade. I'm not sure if they have to repeat the grade. He is doing really well in school but he is nervous if he fails the state exam. What would happen when he fails the exam? It would be a shame to have him repeat third grade. He just doesn't do well under pressure. Does this mean he will have to repeat third grade three times? Will the school promote him eventually? Will he not get a diploma if he doesn't pass the state exams? What does No Child Left Behind Act have to do with this?

A: The state tests do not have anything to do with a child passing or failing a grade. All they do is test the children to see how well they are performing to that state’s standard. His score will not affect him as much he believes, but it will affect his school. The more children who do poorly in a school, the more mandates and penalties it will incur. (On the other hand, depending on how the school uses the information, his scores may help to decide what kind of instruction he receives in the future- gifted classes, remedial reading class,… ) .Some posters have stated that the tests show how well the school is doing, but sadly this is far from the truth. According the NCLB law, each state chooses their own standards. So some states have chosen ridiculously low standards, while others have chosen impossibly high ones. Consequently saying that a school in a state with high standards that did not make adequate growth according to the NCLB laws and is therefore labeled as “failing”, is not doing as well a school in a state that has low standards and did make adequate growth, and is labeled as “passing”, is like comparing apples and oranges. Within a state, there is a similar problem. In general wealthy children do better on the test than lower income children; lower income urban children better than lower income rural children.

Q: How does a general education student become a special education student?
a. Fail all your classes b. Misbehave in classes c. Act stupid in front of teachers and peers d. All of the above

A: I understand your question and I choose d. All of the above. I know some kids are instructed on how to act in order to be referred for services. It's called cheat the social security system to get a monthly check. If you are in a poor school system, it's pretty easy. If you have a wise psychometrist and teachers who aren't duped that easily, it's not too easy. Our district has a building based student support system (BBSST) which requires a lot of prereferral interventions and tons of documentation & paperwork from overworked teachers, before kids are referred for testing.

The trustees want the stduent removed but are there legal issues one has to consider before reccommending the student be removed from a charter school. I know that a studnet with special needs has to be treated fairly but what about the other students?

Q: What are some legit links or websites to get either education/student or personal loans with no or bad credit?
i am a college student with no credit, but im also going through a car accident settlement but the bills are still on my credit unpaid until the settlement is completley "settled" and so it os bad for the moment but it will be erased soon and then im back to no credit.I do not have anyone to co-sign and so thats why i need a private loan.(not stafford or perkins)

A: A private loan is hard to get without a co-signer. I tried to get a private loan before I started school and because my co-signer didn't have the best credit, I was refused the loan. Stafford loans are a good idea because you can hold off paying them back until you are done with school. I would look into those. But if not, try at your local bank. Research their options and go talk to someone about your chances to get a loan.

Q: Which degree - Higher Education Student Personnel or Educational Leadership?
which higher education degree (Masters) is better? Focus on Student Personnel or Educational Leadership? *which one is going to provide more job opportunities?

A: This depends a great deal on what you want to do. Educational Leadership is more general and the people I have known that took that in graduate school were already employed by a college and wanted to get a graduate degree so they could be promoted on the basis of their experience. Higher Education Student Personnel is more slanted toward a specific job - dean of students. s

Q: What do I give a music composition/education student for Christmas?
I want to get my boyfriend something extra special this year- it's our fifth Christmas together, and coincides with our anniversary. I originally thought of getting a leather-bound composition book with a custom cover, but would love to hear any other suggestions.

A: The leather bound composition book is a good idea. So he's going to be a music teacher? A must gift for any teacher is Harry K. Wong's "The First Days of School: How to Be an Effective Teacher" which is a book that teaches teachers the things they don't teach in education classes, like where to stand, calling roll, what to do in the first minutes of any class, etc. You could also go to a store that specifically serves teachers and get him some neat things to decorate his classroom.

Q: where can an unemployed student get education loans?
I have excellent credit, but I want to avoid using a cosigner and I need a student loan other than financial aid, which I already receive.

A: You should be able to increase your financial aid. Other than that , you probably have to have a cosigner.

Q: Advice for a early education student and tutor?
i am about to start early education classes and i am going to start tutoring young children. I've never done this before and of course I am a little nervous with the question of "say if the kid knows more then me and i can't help" but any advice or tips for a first timer with helping kids with school work and other related problems? thanks.

A: 1. Be sensitive, fair, kind and gentle. 2. Be loving, but maintain a professional distance. 3. Don't try to be their best friend, otherwise they will feel betrayed when you have to discipline them (and do discipline them). 4. Solicit their help in developing class rules (some prompting on your part may be required), then post the rules for all to see. 5. Let them help you; they love being teacher's little helper. 6. Give them opportunities to show you and their classmates what they know or have learned. 7. Reward good work and good behavior often using a variety of methods: verbal praise, stickers and stars, candy, toys and other prizes, etc. 8. Don't ignore negative behavior. 9. Keep parents informed. 10. Give them many, many opportunities to experience success. 11. Let each of them take turns being a leader at something. 12. Teach lessons that allow them to use all five of their senses. 13. Design lessons with their interests and their short attention spans in mind. 14. Realize that all kids learn and react differently. 15. Give equal attention to all. 16. Let them know how much you enjoy being their teacher. 17. Plan for many brief and varied activities. Have back-up activities on hand. If the children find themselves idle, you'll have more discipline problems. 18. Tell them what they are going to learn and why it's important/relevant to learn it at the beginning of each lesson. "Children don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." "The most unlovable child is the child that needs your love the most."

Q: Can a special education student go to magnet school?
In middle school I thought about going to a magnet high school but when I applied for it I was rejected and I heard that magnet school is harder than a regular high school but now I'm a senior and shouldn't be worrying about this stuff but sometimes I'll put myself down about it. So tell me can a special ed student go to magnet school?

A: It depends upon the policies of the individual district. However, I suspect that it would be illegal in a public school system to prohibit a special ed student from a magnet school on the basis of the disability. The exception might be if the magnet school requires a certain talent or aptitude, or if the student has behavior issues which would make the placement unsafe. When we first started a local charter school, they would not accept special ed kids because they had no services available. It did not matter what the disability was, even speech articulation problems would be a disqualification. However, after a threat of a lawsuit, that policy was changed. Students do need to have a minimum level of achievement and be behaviorally appropriate to attend that school, but there are several special ed kids at that school now.
