Q: What do I need to become a elementary teacher if I have my masters in education ?
I received my bachelors degree in psychology and my masters in counseling and education. What would I need to become an elementary school teacher, I really don't want to go back to school for two more years.

A: Look for any programs in your area that offer certification. The ones I've seen (and the one I ended up doing), you go to classes over the summer, then apply for teaching jobs with the understanding that you're still working on your certification. During the school year you continue with weekly classes then finish the program at the end of the year and become certified.

Q: Do you need to be a practicing teacher to get a masters in education?
Do you usually have to be a practicing teacher to get a masters in education? I will be moving to a new state for a year or two, and would like to get my masters in education while I have the time off (I am currently a high school teacher). I don't want to work full time while I earn my masters, but I don't want my lack of a classroom to get in the way. Can I use a friend's or volunteer's classroom occasionally rather than have my own?

A: Any masters program is going to assign you a practicum. They will arrange for a monitored situation for you do do this in. Your lack of a classroom will not affect you at all.

Q: Go for masters in education right after undergrad or apply for teaching job and get masters while I teach?
I am graduating in may with my teaching certification in elementary education 1-6 and special education. I am trying to decide whether I should apply for grad school and get my masters in education right when I graduate or if I should apply for teaching jobs and plan to pursue my masters while I teach. Any advice?

A: Often, a masters with no experience is not any better for getting a job than a bachelors alone. But it really depends on where you live. If you can find a job, I'd try to teach at least one year before you start your masters program, to have some experience under your belt. Or do your masters in the summer (many schools have this option.) If you can't find a job right away, its a good time to start on your masters.

Q: How to find a job in India after getting Masters education in USA?
I did a masters in USA, unfortunately my dad died, so i have no choice i must go back to india and look after my family. I request every one to help me in saying, how can i get a job in india after right away doing masters in usa. Thank you

A: My first impulse is to say "Call center." The advantage to that is that you have English skills and they have openings. It is easier to move from a job to another job. I know that you feel overqualified for that, so I am including the following research, which is also available to you through the miracle of the Internet. Also do not forget that you have friends and family there who can get you introductions. Eighty per cent of jobs are not filled through what people ordinarrily think of as the customary channels, such as classified ads and employment agencies. Q: Other than teaching what other careers am I qualified for with a masters in education?
I have a masters in education but am not sure that I want to teach any longer, what other careers can I go into without having to go back to college?

A: Company trainer? There are many things out there, do not sell yourself short

Q: For most school districts do you need a masters in education to get the extra money?
I am thinking of teaching in another state. I have a Master's Degree but it's not in education. still, the district where i teach pays me extra for having a master's degree. Is that the case in most other districts?

A: That is the case, there's a specific pay scale in every state that's based on the level of education that you have. Be careful because some states or districts won't hire teachers that they have to pay more, they prefer people who are fresh out of college because they can pay less. Unfortunately this is the case. I have several friends who are more than qualified to teach but were denied positions simply because they have masters degrees. As much as it sucks, that's just the case. One friend of mine was forced to Sub. teach in a county where they wouldn't hire her full time b/c of her Masters. She ended up being a sub who was overqualified for the position.

Q: Is it possible to teach in high-schools with a bachelors degree in business....with a masters in education?
I am really interested in business/economics/government, I was wondering if I could go to school for business management/administration and then after I complete my 4 years. Would I need t get a masters in education? How many years would that take to finish up so I can teach in high-schools?

A: Generally, if your Bachelor's isn't in education, during your Master's in Education you'll be required to do Student Teaching, one of the main requirements for teaching in Public Schools. You'll need to take your Praxis exams (National Teacher Exams), but at a Private School you won't need any of this. But, they don't generally pay as well either. (no unions to get you better pay)

Q: Salary range for Masters in Education/Health Promotion?
I am completing my masters in education with an emphasis on health, hold a BS in Health Promotion, and an AAS in Information Technology. What is the potential salary range for a well qualified health & education professional?

A: "Median annual earnings of kindergarten, elementary, middle, and secondary school teachers ranged from $41,400 to $45,920 in May 2004; the lowest 10 percent earned $26,730 to $31,180; the top 10 percent earned $66,240 to $71,370. Median earnings for preschool teachers were $20,980." -Occupational Outlook Handbook

Q: I have two masters in education (Special Education), like to find a job in Europe. Where can I look?
Any organizations that can help me out. Thanks.

A: That might be difficult. Check with www.idealist.org for any non-profit jobs in that area as they may include Europe.

Q: good or bad to pursue masters in Education if i only want to teach elementary (K-6)?
I was thinking about getting my M.A in Education on top of my teaching credential (in CA) but with the current budget cuts and such, I've been hearing that having a M.A will affect my chances of getting hired over someone who only has a credential because of the pay increase. Is this true?

A: it depends, i believe the more education the better but they could not hire because of it, but then you have to ask yourself do you really want to work for an organization that hires on the basis of most minimally capable. I think a masters makes you desirable to schools who want the best and wouldn't you rather work for them?

Q: I am a teacher with a masters education. How do i become a project manager? In any field?
Basically a job that makes more $$$. I am in Marietta, GA

A: well you can be a super intendant but nothing else. that's why education is such an easy major to graduate with. it pays nothing. go back to school. professors make a lot of money.

Q: Looking for places to get financial aid for an Education Masters when I already have a bachelors in Business!?
Hello, I have a Bachelors in Business and am very disheartened by the corporate world, and absolutely hate it!! I was thinking about going back for a Masters in Education (teaching), but wanted to know where to go to begin looking for financial aid (since I'm already broke from the bachelors and loans), and just some thoughts in general about making such a huge career transition. Please help!! I am 24.

A: Depending on what you want to teach, there are some loan forgiveness programs and tuition reimbursement programs if you are going into a "critical shortage" area to teach. Check with the website of your state, the Department of Education for more info on what is available in your state. Also try: There are tons of scholarships that go unclaimed each year. Many $400, $500 or $1000 scholarships never even get applied for because people think it's chump change and not worth applying for. Well, get a few of those $500 scholarships and it'll really make a dent in your tuition bill. Do a search on scholarships, search your major, your ethnic heritage, your town, your parents employers, your employer, hobbies, high school, local chamber of commerce/rotary/ lion's club etc. Left-handed? There is a scholarship out there for you! Older woman returning to school? There are scholarships out there for you. Do combined searches on more than one criteria "hispanic women aviation scholarships" etc. Go to the library and ask the reference librarian for a reference book on scholarships. They usually have more than one. There are all kinds of scholarships out there, you just have to start applying yourself and make it your summer career to send out letters everyday for scholarships. Good luck!

Q: I want to know is 15 years of education is eligble for Masters in USA?
I have completed my Degree BSC (3 year) course and wants to do Masters in Networking , But most of the US universties require 16 years of education 10+2+4 but I have only 10+2+3 ,So please let me know am I eligble for Masters , if so please provide me all the information through weblinks or in written format.

A: If you have a qualified Bachelor's degree, by all means go through the application process. As long as you can prove you've done a full curriculum (that is the program you were in was accredited), you've got no problem. You'll need to take the GRE (graduate record exam) as part of the Master's application process, and if you're a foreign non-native English speaker, you'll need to submit the Toefl report. Typically you will also be required to provide letters of recommendation from other professors you've worked with, a letter of intent, as well as all of your university transcripts. If you send an email to any admissions department at any American university, they will send you an admissions packet which includes the process they require you to go through to apply to that school.
