Q: What are the advantages of distance learning education? Anyone taking online classes?
Hi all,
I have a plan to do MBA from an online college, but before taking admission I want to know about the advantages of distance learning education so I can see if it’s best for me. I’ve never done it before and it will be a major decision in my life. Please help if you have any information on this. Thanks for your help.
A: Distance learning are for people who have difficulties / choose not to attend regular classes due to various reasons. One of the main reasons though, is often because you want to study while working. Do you fall into this category?
Distance learning takes lots of dicipline - and also a certain level of maturity in taking charge of your learning. Not many people can do it, but for some it may be the only way of studying. Distance learning has lots of advantages - you can do it anytime, anywhere. You can also pace your studies according your own time. Some people do not like the confines of a classroom - distance learning is perfect for such a person.
However, if you are more of a "I need someone to teach me, and I need to discuss this new lesson with some of my buddies in a group study environment" - distance learning may not be for you.
True, in today's distance learning environment you can do collaborative studies via online discussion forums and bulletin boards - but that lacks the personal touch and the buzz of being around a group of real people "physically".
My suggestion is that if you can afford to attend a regular class, go ahead and do it. If the situation is such that you can only attend a distance learning course, then it's fine too but you might have to change the way you study and quicly adapt to a virtual learning environment - which may not be that difficult if you have the right personality trait. Good luck!

Q: I would like to go back to school and take adult learning education. I would like to start from basic.?
What courses you recommed i should start from
A: I'm a little confused. You want to take subjects so that you can 'teach' adults??? I'm not sure there is such a thing called "adult learning education. If you are an adult and want to take college courses, it is possible that you might have a mixture of students and ages in your class. The basics would include English, Math, Writing, Social Sciences, Biology.
Contact the school you want to attend and get a good counselor. They will help you decide what you want to do with your future and what courses are best suited for you to take.
I applaud you for wanting to increase your knowledge. Go for it.
Q: How do the Parents of a child with learning difficulties effect the childs education?
ADHD, Downs sydrome, Autism, do children with theses education needs get held back or have more oppurtunities depending on their parents. For example if they attend a mainstream school with learning support or a special needs school and if their parents don't realise thier potential?
A: Parent support and involvement is ALWAYS to the benefit and well-being of the child. That said, can a chlid with or without special needs still be successful if parents aren't involved... yes.
When children have a disability that is obvious, such as down syndrome or severe autism, it is considered "educationally neglectful" for the parents not to pursue special education services (in most states, that is). Children's Services can intervene. Most parents wouldn't ignore problems like that anyway because they would want help.
However, when the need is something like ADHD, a learning disability, or high-functioning autism, parents can choose to ignore the problems and, yes, it is generally to the detriment of the child. Parents can refuse to allow the school to run the diagnostic testing needed to allow the school to provide special education services.... in these cases, I guess you can say the parents are taking away opportunities for their child.
I don't think most parents intentionally ignore the needs of their kids... however, sometimes they are in denial and, as a result, don't pursue the help their kids need or allow educators to intervene and help their kids as they should. I think parents are in denial sometimes because they may be sad that their child is struggling and feel overcome by their emotions.
On the flip side, when a parent is involved, yes, that affords the child greater opportunity and increases their liklihood of success. Often times parents are the ones who detect the "special need" first and can bring it to the attention of the school faster. Also, some disabilities require "medical diagnosis" in order for the school to be able to provide special education services to the child. If the parents do not do their part in taking the child to the doctor, the child may not be able to receive the services they need.... thus, taking away opportunities from the child.
Even if the child does not have special needs, parent involvement goes a long way and, most definitely, affords children more opportunities.
Q: Where can i get the best distance learning education in Economics in the UK?
A: The Open Univeristy... Best distance learning college by far.
You don't need to do a full degree with them, so I would imagine they will have some Economics modules you could take and probably get a diploma or something...
Q: What is the relation between culture and learning in education?
A: The two are nearly inseparable. Parent expectations result in student attitude and performance. These expectations come from a kid's dominant culture. 50% of Black and Hispanic kids drop out of Texas schools. The culture doesn't promote graduation, or at least accepts dropping out.
Q: what is the main effects of effects e-learning in higher education?
what is the main effects of effects e-learning in higher education
can you give me some main point s?
A: E-learning has advantages and disadvantages. Since you want to address the effects, these are majority from research and studies done in universities
1) Attendance is not a factor in higher learning since E-Learning have most class lectures and study guides present at any time (assuming ISP service works and maintenance).
2) Learning could be at your convenience to point. I hate to wake up at 8am for a must complete class when I am half-asleep. Now, I could fit my studying between work and when I am awake and ready to study. Again, there are deadlines to projects, exams, etc. but e-learning could be flexible with my schedule
3) The impact of education are not limited to geography but Internet access. This has a big impact in rural areas where students are not necessarily local. It helps the student stay on top of their academic career
Disadvantages:
1) Economic Barriers - Still not all people have computers or could afford High Speed Internet
2) Computer maintenance and downtime are uncontrolllable variables that could prevent you in meeting deadlines. I have been involved in cases where students wait the day before a deadline and the network crashed. They have no access to the project and to electronically submit. And they missed the deadline for that. Most professors do not make excuses for computer downtime since deadlines are announced way in an advance
3) Some students are comfortable in the traditional classroom lectures and need "human" interaction to learn. Some people are better when they see people in the class than not see fellow students (physically) for e-learning. The group projects and human interactions are lost
Hope that gives you some highlights and notes
Q: How is/did the government dealing with learning disabilities in education/work place?
Did the government pass any laws, acts, or anything that deals with this? Either mental or physical disability.
A: in the US there is IDEA, section 504
supposedly there is the ADA and state laws against discrimination in the work place--but the government can't be bothered to enforce them--so employers get away with firing people because of disability
Q: What is the alternative learning outcome from a Christ-centred education?
Desmonstrate cognitive skills and learning outcomesstemming from a Christ-centred distance education dedicated to integrity, excellence, and innovation
A: I am a Christian and I am a teacher. However, I have no idea what your question and statement means. Maybe you should reword and simplify if you want answers.

Q: What could be a good topic for research on language education or language learning?
I am about to go on a research which is requirement in my studies. I'm thinking hard of a good and new topic about language teaching or learning. You might have any suggestion. It will be a great help. Thanks!
A: Some teachers and I were arguing this very thing yesterday. Some of us feel that language is better taught using the holistic approach. Meaning it should be taught through conversation, reading, and with the technical part of language, grammar, taught in conjuction as a byproduct of language. Grammar is important and should be taught but a natural approach to language is the way we learned from childhood, imitation: speak first then learn the rules.
Other teachers feel that the technical part of language is important to teach right away in order to give students a road map.
So, to answer your question. Maybe your research could be... Should we teach language using the holistic approach or should we teach language in isolation: grammar, vocabulary and drills?
Good luck.

A: From the American Arts Alliance website:

Q: How to do Ph.D (Chemistry) in distance learning education?
Please let me know how to do Ph.D in through distance education
A: In order to do this you must contact a University that has this option availables. I am not sure of any that do this. Most only allow Master's degrees through distance learning. What you could do is attend the Univeristy for one or two years to take all or your courses and then, if it is okay with your major advisor, you could do your research at another place.
