Q: What should one do if one cannot finance a College or University Education?
If one wishes to further ones education but ones parents/guardian is unable to finance it or one is unable to finance it, what would you suggest should be done?

A: If you are assuming you or your parents will have to come up with all of the money on your own, that just isn't the case. Apply to college and then see what kind of a financial aid package the college will give you before giving up. If even with that, you come up short, there are several options. The first would be to spend a couple of years at a community college. If you and your parents can't even afford that, you should be eligible for government grants to pay for your education. Secondly, you could live at home and work, going to school part-time rather than full-time. There are a lot of adult students these days who are working full-time and taking classes, either at night, during the daytime, or online.

Q: How did you finance your education?
Did you get Pell Grant, other government loans, credit cards, prepaid, scholarship or what? And, do you still owe?

A: Hit everything you can. I financed mine with: 1 Scholarship from the university ($5k / year) 1 Scholarship from my father's work ($5k / year) 1 Gov'ment loan ($3k / year) 1 "Hit my dad up for money" ($3k / year) 1 "Worked my butt off over the summer" ($4k / year) 1 "Worked my butt off during my studies ($2k / year) When I graduated, I also had about $1k in Debt from the good ole Visa and Co.

Q: Any suggestions on how to finance my college education?
I'm aware of Pell grants. I think they cap it off at around $4,700 a year. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to cover the rest of my college tution, books, lab fees, room, board, transportation, etc.? My parents never saved a dime for my education. I plan to pursue a major in Criminology or Sociology. I'd like to kep all of my options open for the future, so I'm kind of trying to steer clear of government loans...not government grants, but government loans. Specifically because if I were ever to apply for a government position in the future, I could not have any outstanding government loans. If you guys could kick me down a couple good ideas, nothing that would jeopardize my integrity or leave me in anything less than great moral standing please. I appreciate it! Haha. Thanks to the first answerer...but I'm asking for specific jobs, perhaps a business venture, etc.

A: Welcome to the club. Sticker shock isn't limited to cars. It applies to the money you will need for college student loans. Over the years the cost of a college education has increased dramatically. The first thing to remember about a student loan, that it really is not an expense, it is an investment, in yourself. A college education can lead to a more rewarding job and greater earning capability throughout your career. Studies estimate that you will 80% more over your life with a college degree versus a high school diploma. I looked around and found this site as good resource for ideas on raising money for school. It looks like they offer some legitimate advice. http://www.collegecashplace.com

Q: Is this an example of who the dream act will finance an education for?
The following is an article of a hunger strike at TSU Law school. http://sweetness-light.com/archive/law-schools-hunger-strike-for-illegal-aliens Additionally isn't there a check as to whether a person has violated the law prior to becoming an attorney? Would or should illegal entry to the U.S. preclude a law career? Is the writer an example of the education offered at TSU law school? Would this example be a colassal waste, to churn out uneducated students for the price of a college education? Thoughts please.

A: Not to be mean or anything, but some of these "hunger strikers" really need to lose weight if they want to live long enough to practice law!! This is one thing that just irratates me to no end about these illegals and their offsprings: THEY ONLY WANT TO FOLLOW THE LAWS WHEN THEY SEE THAT THEY CAN BENEFIT FROM IT. AND THEY WOULD PULL ALL OF THESE STUPID MELODRAMA "HUMAN RIGHTS" FARCES JUST TO GET AWAY WITH THINGS. Who's parents didn't struggle and sacrifice for their children's better future? My parents saved and saved and lived very simply(and they sure don't have the cell phones, the cars and other things that these "victims" parents have) so that I could be in this country and study so I could have a better future. I went home only 6 times for the past 17 years partly because the immigration restrictions( oh, BTW, I came here legally).

Q: Where can I get a sponsor to finance my tertiary education?
I've got a sit in a University in Australia to study IT but I do not have sufficient funds to proceed further. Thanks beforehand for all reply!!!

A: You can get a scholarship from the school itself if you have good grades, ask about the scholarship from the school you want to attend. Local newspapers also give out scholarship once in a while. (Scholarship means sponsor)

Q: How can you finance your college education? Are there any ways, I have to answer this question for application?
I am kind of stuck on this question here, please help me!!

A: Yes. You can start with federal financial aid. There are grants and loans available to students by the federal government. These are need-based forms of aid. Then there are scholarships which are usually merit-based or a combination of merit and need. There are many national scholarships that you can apply for and the university you are attending has scholarships specifically for those attending their school. You could always get a job and work to supplement any financial aid. The last resort should be private loans from a bank, but are a possibilty if there is no other way.

Q: Do you think finance education should be added to our school curriculum?

A: Without a doubt, finances affect us more in our personal life than just about any other topic. We have less training in this than most real life challenges.

Q: How to finance my higher education, how much loan can I get...???
I am planning to do MBA soon. The tuition fee for the college is around $60K total . If I have around 10K in savings account. what is a better way to pay for fee. 1. to take a full loan or 2. to pay some with this saving and take rest as loan and in both cases can I get the required amount as loan..?? what are the terms and conditions I would be required to fulfill to get the loan. and do I need to show that I have $60k as a backup in bank accounts (mine / any relatives)in case I wouldn't be able to payback. I think that I should keep the 10K safe aside for some other unforeseen purposes. Is it fine.. what do you think. Thanx in advance for sharing ur knowledge. I'm a software engineer. earn 50K pa. I hope I'll get a good rise after completing my MBA.

A: Talk to some other people in your field that have MBA's and see if it is paying off for them. I work at a college and I am getting a lot of MBA's and even lawyers coming back to get certified to teach. The MBA never panned out for them.

Q: Why do you feel that most people are not getting the education they need in personal finance?
There is a reason why millions of americans are in heavy amounts of debt. Perhaps they were never informed about how to manage their money effectively. What do you feel is the reason for this? Lack of education? Chronic consumption? Etc?

A: Honestly, I believe that the household debt issue is a combination of many factors, but the largest factor is not calculating the impact of financial decisions. Some may argue that this is a result of poor financial education, but I would argue that it is the result of a lack of effort. It takes a lot of time and effort to accurately map out all your income and expenses to know exactly how much money is available for discretionary purchases. I think that there are many tools available now to help consumers, such as online banking/credit card statements that detail income and expenses for a given time period. If consumers spend the time to look over the information available to them, they are much more likely to understand their finances and manage them better.
