Q: How to report financial aid office of a college to the department of education?
I have been discriminated by the financial aid of my college. I plan to report them to the department of education or sue them by my lawyer or/and report them to one of the TV news. My question is if I want to report them to the department of education, how will I do that? What procedure do I need to follow? Can I sue them after I report them to the department of education?
A: If you want to pursue this look in the white pages of your phone book under United States Government and call the regional office for your area of the Department of Education and ask for an investigation. I will suggest, however, that you will need some concrete evidence of discrimination, but they will investigate your claim. If your appeal was denied or you were not given eligibility for grants, this would not necessarily constitute discrimination. What steps you are able to take after that will depend on the results of the investigation.
Q: Do we need a US Department of Education?
Jimmeh Carter created it in 1979. Reagan tried to get rid of it, but the Dem Congress said uh-uh...too many govt jobs. Too many dem votes. Now the Porkulus gives the E.D. a $100 BILLION. Kids are turning out stupider every year. The Education Department is obviously not doing it's job. Cant Congress start CUTTING useless departments & stop SPENDING money?
A: For many years education was handled by the states and by local boards. There were some inequities that were mostly racial in character. There were and are areas where poverty is the rule not the exception. So you ended up with good school districts and bad school districts. Hasn't changed a bit since the feds got involved. The only thing that has changed is our kids are getting less of an education now than they used to. Teachers now have to teach to the federally mandated test. In this country, scores on tests for math and science are falling, reading levels have not improved and in some cases are also falling. Teachers are over regulated as are our neighborhood schools. In my opinion educating our children is a job better left to states and localities. This is where our voices can be heard. The guys and gals in Washington never hear us they just hear each other.
Q: Is it possible for the Department of Education to secure and confiscate money held in Travelers Cheques?
Just wondering, as I am leaving on a year long trip soon and am purchasing American Express Traveler Cheques and am wondering if I owe money to the Department of Education for past student loans, if they can and are able to to take that money out of American Express to where I wont be able to use the cheques, just like if they were in a regular bank account?
How so?
A: Interesting that you are ducking Federal student loans yet have enough money for a year long trip.
How so?
Q: Who is the current Secretary of the Department of Education?

Q: Hitler worked within the Education Department of the army and his task here was to lecture returning sold?
Does this mean the Nazis were right wingers?
http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:XNE91d05WmAJ:www.historylearningsite.co.uk/adolf_hitler.htm+hitler+considered+communists&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=7&gl=us
Hitler also worked within the Education Department of the army and his task here was to lecture returning soldiers on the dangers of communism, socialism and pacifism
That's what the title should read.
A: Not to mention Nationalism, the furthest right you can go-was a major factor in Nazi ideology.
The term National Socialists is only half right. The Nazi's were not Socialists.
Saddam Hussein had the Republican Guard. Did that make him a Republican?
Q: Since we have doubled the Department of Education why are America children getting dumber?
Bush doubled the size of the Department Education, but people are getting dumber. Is more government really the best solution?

"Ron Paul is a libertarian free market austrian school extremist, just like the morons who got us into this mess."
I disagree with you that it was the free market that got us into the mess today. It was not the free market that set interest rates to 1%, nor the free market that forced banks to lower there lending standards, or gave them implied bailout guarantees if they took too much risk.
A: BING BING BING. And we have a winner. It is about time people are starting to realize this. the US educational system has been a joke for decades. It needs to be reformed. It is not the money that goes into the school systems as it is a lot of the teachers who are there. It is the lack of pushing students. It is the lack of actually caring by this nation for the future. We have been falling behind in the world.
Q: Is there an education department at Georgetown University?
A: Go to their website and look up the majors that they offer.
Q: What education would I need to work in the Psychological Department of a Hospital?
I'm interested in going into this department. What high school and college education would I need in order to get a good well paying job in that department?
A: To get a job that pays well in the psychology department of a hospital, you would likely need an M.D. (work as a psychiatrist). You could work with patients as a master's level therapist, but they do not make much money at the job ( don't count on more than 35k-40k, and even that could be pushing it). With a bachelor's degree in psychology, you could work in the department as a psych tech, but your pay would scarcely rival that of working at your local McDonald's (sad, but true).

Q: My Tax Return Was Offset By The Department Of Education?
They say I owe FAFSA $556.37. They took my federal tax return which was $566.00 and they said there's $17.00 offset fee they will wave since I'm making the payment in full.
After this is paid does this mean in the fall that I can go back to college and receive FAFSA again? I asked and the department of education rep I talked said yes, but I'm just checking to make sure.
A: FAFSA is just a clearinghouse that keeps records of your family's income and the various financial aid you receive. They don't give you any money themselves.
Since your tax refund was offset, you must have owed money on some kind of federal loan. Now that you've paid the balance due in full, however, you should certainly be eligible for that same loan, as well as any other loans or grants you qualify for.
Q: As the Department of Education gets more money, do Americans become dumber and dumber?
Sure seems like it to me, we are spending more than ever on the education, yet we are dumber than ever.
A: I am sick and tired of hearing that we are not spending a dime on education when the US spends the most than any other country except for Switzerland then our kids scores low on math and comprehension.
As of right now our public schools are nothing but indoctrination factories. Most of the teachers are C students who shouldn't be teachers in the first place and for those who are not can't get pay raises for success.
It's not about education it is like everything else in this country it's about the unions.
Q: Has the constitutionality of The Department of Education Organization Act of 1979 ever been questioned?
The Constitution does not grant the federal government any power over education. Was this act unconstitutional or has it ever been challenged?
A: The Department of Education, like most federal programs, is absolutely unconstitutional. And the Supreme Court, contrary to popular belief, cannot dictate what is constitutional and what is not.
"Our formula is as simple as it is sweeping: The federal government has no constitutional authority to be involved in school curricula or to control jobs in the workplace. That is why we will abolish the Department of Education, end federal meddling in our schools, and promote family choice at all levels of learning.
We therefore call for prompt repeal of the Goals 2000 program and the School-To-Work Act of 1994, which put new federal controls, as well as unfunded mandates, on the States. We further urge that federal attempts to impose outcome- or performance-based education on local schools be ended."
Q: What control does the US Department of Education have over public schools and their sports programs?
Can they control whether or not students who do not go to the public high schools can play sports for them?
A: No, that (and most other public school decisions) are made at the state and district level.
Q: Department of Education is taking my income taxes?
The US Department of education is holding a claim against me. They are requesting to take my federal and state income taxes. I normally get about $3,500 back every year. If they take this amount, I will have my loans paid off in 4 years.
I have tried to go on a payment plan. The collection department told me they can not accept my offer. I asked to pay $100 a month. I only make $12 an hour and I am a single parent. They told me the lowest they will take is $240 a month. There is no way I can pay that.
Should I just let them take my income taxes? At least i'll have the loan paid off in roughly 4 years. I know I am in the wrong b/c I am in default. Is any one else going through this
A: This is a prime example, along with comments from several of your answers to your question of why applying for FAFSA loans can destroy a person's whole life!
FAFSA application will not allow an age less than 24 years old who cannot answer NO to any one of 7 criterion questions to meet an independent status instead of dependent status. An age less than 24 years old independent child cannot apply on their own merits must rely on parents income, who are trying to save for their retirement!
DOE is the agency that take your income taxes when you got rent due, daycare costs, grocery to buy, school uniforms, gas for a raggedy vehicle and rob your LIFE completely. Why? The government, Congress, whoever, is supposed to help citizens not make one agency ruin you while the other one in conjunction with them destroy your life. The collection agencies are JERKS, yes they're only doing their job, heard it all before, whatever! Even when DOE take your income taxes over the next 4 years, on the 4th year when you paid up, your credit remains trashed from that day until 7 years later!!
Your entire life becomes screwed because you only wanted to better your life. The government is in cahoots with the schools/universities, which are businesses only. Universities could care less whether you graduate or not! Due to circumstances, sometime beyond your control, DOE and their collection agenciess cannot even allow you to pay $100 for a well made attempt to pay what you already know you owe. That's the government for you!
Q: If my IRS refund was seized by the Department of Education, can my tax rebate check be seized as well?
My loan is in default. After they took my tax refund, I still have an owing balance. I've gotten in touch with them and am on a payment plan, but will not be out of default for 8 more months. Thanks in advance for any insight.
A: Yes. According to the IRS:
Q. I'm eligible for a payment but I still owe federal income tax from a prior year. Will my payment be reduced?
A. Yes. For this purpose, the stimulus payment is treated like any other tax refund. This means that part or all of your payment can be used to pay past-due federal or state income taxes or non-tax federal debt such as student loans and child support. If this occurs, you will receive a letter explaining how the stimulus payment was applied.
Q: Why do we need a Federal Department of Education?
Is there a liberal here (or a conservative even) that can see the huge fed agency for education is completely a waste of money?
Is there one?
Are you saying your State Gov't can't handle it?
Or your Local Government?
Does anyone want George Bush, or Bill Clinton in charge of educating their children?
Please.. can't we just dismantle it. Any one in agreement?
A: I completely agree, Im a conservative,Not voting for McCain or Obama.
The Dept of Education, which does nothing, accounts for $68 billion dollars in annual budget. $12 billion is distributed to the states for schools. That is a $56 billion hole which is dumped into failed programs like No Child Left Behind and other nonsense
