Q: Can I work in Canada with an Irish Education degree?
I'm about to graduate from a university in Canada. I want to take my Education degree at University College Cork. If I get that degree, will I be able to return to Canada and teach with that degree? How much red tape will I need to go through to make it work? I'd be returning to Alberta or BC to work. Thanks for your help!

A: Yes, I believe so. BC and Ontario are the only provinces with a college of teachers that you have to apply to before being able to teach in those provinces. I would contact the BC College of Teachers, and make sure prior to applying to your education program.

Q: Do you have to have an education degree to take the teacher certification test?

I have a degree in English Education, and i've worked with non-for-profit organizations. But, I am seriously looking to move away from fields that deal with children. It just isn't for me, I've decided. Can I get some suggestions.

Q: Does anyone have any suggestions about possible careers other than teaching if you have an education degree?
I'm tired of teaching and am looking for another career, if someone knows of a career that pays as much as teaching, please let me know. My degree is Heatlth, Physical Education, and Recreation.

A: lifestyle coach, personal trainer? Maybe look at dietician work? I would maybe look at starting up your own business, specialising in either party fun for kids (active based) as you have the skills to control and run them - plus parents would be willing to pay for someone to take control and keep them entertained and active :) or running / organising some sort of 'active camp' for kids.... targeted at overweight, underactive kids, run either camp style during school holidays or as weekly sessions... incorporate healthy eating, varied, fun excercises and sports.... this could be a real winner I think!

Q: I have a History degree, and now I want a education degree, what is the Fastest Route?
I just got a History degree and I decided that I want to teach, but I do not want to go back to school for four more years. Is there an easier route that I could take? I do have some of the education classes taken, well that help me at all?

A: It doesn't take four years to get a second degree because you have completed your general education classes along with several electives. You would just need the education classes required by the school you plan on attending. Check a few local colleges about admission into the education program. They probably require 30 to 40 credit hours of education classes. Also, the type of teaching you want to do will influence what you need to take. If you want to teach history, you won't need as many additional hours as you would to teach another subject.

Q: I have a general education degree. What can I use it for?
I went to shippensburg university, went for elementary education. Didn't complete my final year but had enough credits for a bach. degree in education.

A: Teacher.

Q: Can I work in Republic of Ireland with an American Education degree?
I am working on my early childhood education in the US and was considering moving to Ireland. Would i be able to teach there with my degree. What would i have to do to get approved? Thanks

A: My understanding on this is imperfect, so you'll want to do further research. From my understanding, though, it's not the American education degree that's the problem - it's that you don't speak Irish. I understand that all primary school teachers in Ireland, in order to qualify to teach, must speak Irish. I've heard from several British teachers who wanted to move to Ireland that this is a major stumbling block for foreign teachers. I believe that you also may need to take a post-graduate teacher training course in Ireland, but that, I'm less sure of. I'm not sure if your American training would be enough, so perhaps contact the following teacher training college to find out more about the requirements to teach in Ireland: St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra. You can also ask them if you must speak Irish (I'm pretty sure you do), but more importantly, if you can take it as part of your post-grad course, and have enough Irish to qualify, or if that's impossible.
