Q: New Zealand Seconday Education courses?
I am considering moving back to NZ to teach; however my credentials are not from NZ and I have no prior experience with the education system in NZ. Can anyone provide some details on what sort of things would be taught for the following course titles at Level 7&up: Social Studies, History, Homeroom (7+). Specifically, is social studies primarily politics or ??, is history at level 7up mostly NZ or world history, and is homeroom an actual class? All advice on these items or the system in general is greatly appreciated.
FYI - I have lived on the South Island working in IT (computers/ programming) but have never actually used by education credentials before this time. Not sure if that makes a big difference for employment prospects.
A: The link below is to the NZ ministry of Education's website for people who want to teach in NZ. Hopefully it will answer all your questions.
Q: what do you think of higher education courses in the uk?essays or exams?
Do you think essays should be replaced by exams or tests?
I personally believe tests/exams would be better.
essays are boring; there's more physical than intelectual work involved; students can copy from other students or ask someone to write essays for them.
and I don't think 8 modules per year is a lot as the uk brags about. I think it's normal. I heard that in other countries there's 12 modules per year.
thanks
A: I think examinations are best. Examinations should however test the knowledge acquired by an pupil and not be used to catch the pupil out as it were.
Trick Questions should never be asked of any pupil.
Concerning the amount of modules per year, it would depend on the volume of the material to be covered which would vary from subject to subject as well as from level to level. I am in South Africa and have studied at several universities where I was taught english by Oxford and Cambridge graduates I also studied for a Higher Education Diploma.
Q: if i recently got a F in one of my general education college courses, how many A's do i need to make up for it?
i dropped all my classes last fall due to a family death in another country. i dropped all classes online but one did not go through properly and i stayed enrolled in it. i am currently enrolled in 2 winter classes(one of them is the same class as the one i fail so i can repeat that course with a better grade than an F) , how many a's do i need to make up for that drop in my gpa of an F. will 2 A's be sufficient?
A: it doesnt matter how many A's you get, its still a failing grade you'd just have to retake it and pass it, but because of the situation you might be able to talk to the Dean or whoever takes care of the classes and grades and so forth and they might be able to make it disapear all together like if you dropped it like it was supose to be
Q: Does the DMV offer Driver Education courses to people or only your school/college?

Q: How Easy/Hard Are The Graduate Childhood Education Courses at Long Island University (CW Post Campus?)?
I am going to be starting in Spring 2008 and I have never been that great at school, classes, and tests, but I would like to know what I can expect.
A: How hard could it be, most childhood classes that I have taken are easy, but you won't know until you try it. Good luck.
Q: How does education policy affect courses in PCET (post compulsary education and training)?
more specifically my essay says...
''Give consideration to how education policy influences the design and delivery of courses in the sector'' (i.e. the PCET sector)
A: The question answers itself. Education policy is the reason there is post compulsary education and training. The education establishment tries to maintain education levels among it's educators to best serve the students. Without compulsary education and training many teachers wouldn't make the time to stay on top of the latest trends (not that I think that is necessarily a good thing...many new trends are just stupid). An educator certainly does not have time during the school year to take courses on a regular basis and who wants to spend their time off taking classes. It must be compulsary. Unfortunately to appear to be proactive many school districts in this nation create courses and training that are often too trendy (everyone jumps on the newest band wagon without really researching the new ideas thoroughly enough or even thinking about it logically...example "whole language"...what a joke and created a whole class of young people that can't read). They can be very redundant as well....taking training class after class that seems to repeat the same sorts of things year after year. The list goes on.
So what is it exactly that you want to know?
Q: Can a person get just as good of an education by taking distance courses?
I mean, is there something to learning along with a group of people, or will I be fine learning with a computer from a distance?
A: There's also quite a bit to be said for the quality of the organization doing the teaching. Not all distance courses are created equal.
Q: Help! Why it is important to have a college education if you take courses that are not toward your career?
Why should you take class if has nothing to do with your career? Please give a detailed message.
A: College is not just set of courses. You can learn and read course paper at home. College teaches you team work, interacting with people and sometimes also teaches how to do things you absolutely don't like. You are learning a life's lesson at college. You can always choose course that go towards your career later.

Q: Is general education courses necessary?
Wouldn't it be better to just take the required classes only without the GE classes in colleges ? Less expensive, graduate faster, more specialized in area of study. I know there are many reasons to included GE but I'm just looking at the opposing side. Any books or articles on education without general education?
A: That would be great. Instead of being a jack of all trades, you could be a master of ONE...so when your job is taken over by a machine (or shipped overseas) then you have no other skills to fall back on.
Too bad you didn't take those general education courses, which would have helped to broaden your skill-set.
