department of education questions and answers

Q: How do i find out if a on line school is coverd by the department of education?
A: The are a few ways. You can wait to see if you are approved for Finical Aide, if not then the school is probably not accredited. There is a scholarship site called fastweb that can also tell you, the school's site should also have accredited listed on it. Also its always good to google "accredited online schools"
I know a great one. Ashford University
Q: What is the name of the secretary of the Northern Territory Department of Education?
A: Sorry, couldn't find it - but I did find that it's not called the Dept of Ed in the NT, it's DEET, the Dept of Employment, Education and Training - http://www.deet.nt.gov.au/
Q: Should the United States abolish the Department of Education?
Return the power to the states. Have the states be completely in charge of funding and running their own schools. Am I the only one who thinks we should do this?
A: After reading some of the questions and answers here on Yahoo, not only do I think the Dept. of Education should be abolished, I think the buildings they used to occupy should be torn down, the steel sold for scrap and the brick and mortar used to fill in potholes on the Capitol Beltway.
Q: Would you agree that instead of funding the Federal Department of Education we could use that $ to buy books?
Instead of the 60 billion plus being used to fund a department of Education in 2008, couldn't government use that money to:
Rebuild every day care, elementary school, middle school, and high school in America that is in need of repair,
and,
but every student in America their textbooks for the school year?
Wouldn't that be a better use of the funds?
Probably enough money left over for a school breakfast and lunch program,
and not none of that pizza hut junk neither . . some apples and carrot sticks for the kids.
A: I'm not sure what the over bloated Dept of Eduction has to do with Iraq but you are correct. It is an unnecessary Federal Department that really should be done away with. The states handled education until Carter formed this Department and it really looks like it has hurt education in this country...........
Q: What actions can be taken if the U.S. department of education is not reporting payments to the bureaus?
Due to fatal car accident and 2 surgeries my student loan fell into default. I'm made many payments there after, but missed a few. They never reported those payments. Now I'm under wage garnishment due to the missed payments and they are still not reporting the payments to the credit burueas. This is costly to my credit score since I have 12 loans out from school. What can be done? Also on top of the 15% garnishment they want $380 per month for a year to get the loan out of default. Help anyone.
A: I have been advised to not pay because their rules are so crooked. My retirement was garnished for a year and I was paying fifty bucks a month on top of that and my principal never went down, so I wrote the DE and told them the people they had collecting were crooks, and wasn't going to give them anymore vacation pay. I still get letters from them but their computer genersted, no real message. I wish some hacker would take them down and do us all a big favor.
Q: Has education improved since the creation of the Department of Education in 1980?
"Its creation a century later in 1979 was controversial and opposed by many in the Republican Party, who saw the department as an unconstitutional, unnecessary federal bureaucratic intrusion into local affairs."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Department_of_Education
A: Absolutely NOT and even more distressing... this program has ushered in the personality profiling and organized drugging of our children by schools with or without parent's permission.
This government is afoul and so is the education system.
Please see my previous suggested viewing of an interview with Mr. Norman Dodds regarding the insidious take-over of education to merge it with the soviet model.
Q: How much funding is budgeted by the U.S. Government for Student Financial Aid in the Department of Education?
How much is spent on direct grant in aid? work study? loans? Please cite sources.
A: very little they barely have enough to give to the poor
Q: why do you think politicians should not intervene in the hiring of teachers in the department of education?
why they should intervene?
and why they should not intervene?
A: They should not.
Q: I have already filed my return and the Department of education took my return to pay my debts. I recently?
received another w-2 that I forgot I was getting. If I amend the return what will happen and can I just file it next year? If I do file next year will that effect the return in a bad way?
A: If you are due an additional refund due to the new information it is likely they will seize that as well. If you owe due to the new information you will need to pay it now. If you do not send in a amended return the IRS will correct your return and bill you for what you owe plus interest and penalties or send the refund to DoE. It really is neater and cleaner to take care of it now which ever way it comes out. If it is taxes owed and you send in before April 15 you will not have any interest or penalties for the amended return.
Q: to all your Ron Paul supporters, do you believe in eliminating the department of education?
he does. It seems like socialists support him, but he is no where near a socialist.
A: Absolutely.
The federal government funds about 6% of your local school with the bulk of the money coming from the state and the city council (and this percent is WAY up since Bush took over). Yet, some estimate that the federal government standards in education consume about 30% of the schools' operating budgets. This isn't a good deal for the schools!
There was zero federal funding of K-12 education prior to the 1960s and we were already the richest and most powerful nation on earth. I don't see what the tiny amount of federal funding has done to improve our schools.
Q: Would you agree with eliminating the Department of Education?
Except for defining a standardized curriculum, I can't see any reason to have this department.
Education is left up to the states.
It has 4,500 employees and a $71.5 billion budget
A: Yes, except for the caveat about instituting a standardized, nationwide curriculum. I believe this is critical to the future generations of American children. Allowing for 50 different standards is NOT good policy. I think this should be the #1 priority of the U.S. Dept. of Education.
One wonders why we even have this department if the Constitution says education is the responsibility of individual states. Could it be that (gasp!) the Constitution needs to be amended?
Q: Does the United States Department of Education have a mission statement?
A: None that I can find...
Q: What is the Department of Education's job?
What I mean by that, is...what job does (overall) the Department of Education have to fulfill? Like, what job does the Department of Education have to do?
What are several current duties, actions, tasks, or projects currently being done by the Departmen of Education?
A: It was created in 1980 by combining offices from several federal agencies. Its original directive remains its mission today — to ensure equal access to education and to promote educational excellence throughout the nation. Its 4,500 employees and $71.5 billion budget are dedicated to:
• Establishing policies on federal financial aid for education, and distributing as well as monitoring those funds.
• Collecting data on America's schools and disseminating research.
• Focusing national attention on key educational issues.
• Prohibiting discrimination and ensuring equal access to education.
Q: How can I get the Department of Education to apply my payments to "Principal Balance"insted of to "fees&costs"
National Payment Center is using my payments for "fees&costs"never towards principal balance.
A: First, call them and tell them that you want your payments to go toward your Principal Balance, or at least a portion of it. If your current loan does not allow for that, try negotiating with them. They may ask you to put it in writing --for instance, you may need to send a check and WRITE on the check to put it towards priciple. But more than likely, you may need to send your regular payment and AN ADDITIONAL amount that you specify is to go toward principal. If this fails, I would speak with a financial counselor outside of National Payment Center. HTH and best of luck to you.
Q: Do you think that the Department of Education should be eliminated? Why or why not?
ever think that the reason people cant afford gas is because the federal government takes so much money from them to fund the dept of education that is administered through a huge inefficient bureaucracy?
eliminating the federal governments dept of education would not end education. it could be a state or local issue. or a private issue. please done forget that the government cannot command resources that do not exist. anything the government does can be dont privately.
A: Well, people can't even afford gas or to keep and heat their homes so I think doing away with the Dept. of Education right now would be a bad idea.
Edit: So, if it becomes a state issue, aren't you still going to pay tax to run the program - where will the money come from? making it private is ridiculous and not well thought out. You will become a country filled with uneducated, unhealthy children and adults. Do you really want to deny the children of your country a basic education? If their parents are poor, then screw 'em? They deserve to be uneducated? Guess what...they won't be able to get a good job and then..you guessed it, will need to rely on government handouts. You want your people educated - how else will they ever become independent?
