Q: Can you tell me what the Court case Brown v. Board of education was about?
Just a brief summary about the Brown v. Board of education for the test i am taking.
A: You could have googled it in less time than it took to write this question. And read this answer.
Q: What's the difference between the duties of a School District Superintendent and the Board of Education?
I'm just wondering. I know that the Board gets elected, and the Superintendent gets appointed, but I don't know what either does. Can someone tell me the difference between their jobs? Which is superior?
A: It can vary from one jurisdiction to another, but in the typical case, the school board sets policy and appoints the superintendent to implement it. The superintendent is responsible to the board for how well the policy is implemented.
Q: Can I make a difference by running for my schools board of education?
I am not sure what this job would require of me, but I think I could help make a difference. Does anyone know what my responsibilities would be as a board member? Can I really help by bringing the opinion of a disabled childs Mom to the table?
A: What school boards need is former educators. It's really hard on the schools/administration/educators when people who don't really understand what goes on day-to-day are making decisions that affect the effectiveness of a district. Attend the meetings and let your voice be heard! Leave the seats open for those who understand the potential disaster that can result from a simple 'vote.'

im trying to find a place thats simialr to job corp that gives you free room and board. and the training and or education is free. does some other place like that exist?
A: Go to http://jobcorps.doleta.gov. It has a online manuel and also has links to different job corp centers around the country. You can get your high school diploma and a skill of your choice and it's free. Most of the programs are two-year durations. They will also help you find a job afterward and help you find a place if you have to relocate.
Q: brown vs topeka board of education: did linda brown ever get into that school?
in my history book it says that oliver brown took the topeka board of education to the supreme court, so his daughter linda brown could go to her nearer, all-white school, since it was better and closer. the supreme court ruled schools should be desegregated, but 'by the end of 1956 not one black child attended a white school in the south.'
so did linda brown not get into the school in the end anyway? does anybody know?
A: I believe she did but I don't know if they stayed. The case has been cause for much debate because of the misconception that parents wanted their black kids to go to school with whites to be smarter. Whites moved out of the cities in the north to re-segregate schools. Blacks believed that schools wouldn't be able to deliver their usual sub-par indifferent education if there were white students in the class. City schools are now mostly one race or they other. Us blacks who were born after the death of mlk don't hold those types of beliefs about white moral awakenings or equality and have put the focus on trying to get the resources for the schools that serve our community. Most states would rather spend the money on jails and prisons to keep from educating minority youth. The point I want to make is I grew up in the south and it wasn't as bad as the rest of the enlightened states that have cops that shoot up their young black people or build prisons 100 -1 schools.
Q: research question on brown vs board of education help?
I am writing a research paper on Brown vs the board of education , but I can't seem to form a good research question. Can somebody help me please ( 10 points for the best question). Please and thank u. Also if it possible for you to give me an outline. Not detailed, just sections I can talk about. For example background information, where are they now, etc.
A: The most interesting aspect of Brown v. Board is how this landmark case acted as a catalyst for the burgeoning civil rights movement of the 1960s. Not sure if this is your history class or what, but whenever you're researching a historical event for a paper, you should focus on what makes the event significant. You could write hundreds of pages on the details of the case - the origin (Plessy v. Ferguson), the ruling itself, the case law, etc. What really matters is how Brown v. Board changed the American political and social landscape. Brown v. Board led to forcible desegregation, which was an incredibly controversial move in the South. De-seg was a hot topic for decades afterward. The 'separate but equal' doctrine' was responsible for the violence, racism, and intimidation occurring in the South. Brown v. Board was the federal government's first important move in repairing some of the damage caused by the failure of Reconstruction after the Civil War. Keep in mind that the federal government essentially ignored the plight of African Americans in the South from 1876 until Brown v. Board.
I don't have an outline for you, but I would touch on these topics in your paper. Good luck!
Q: Does a public school board of education have to abide by the same labor and workforce laws as other businesses?
Do they (school boards) have to give their employees the right to file a complaint if the employee feels they are being unjustly treated?
A: of course it is a government job
Q: Do you support the Florida Education Board about the decision to put Mid-Term Exams AFTER Winter Break?
This is only for Public School Students. Just give me a yes or no and explain why in about 2-3 sentences.
A: no
id leave the state cause its like they never want u to have a break.you would have to study on ur time off and id never do that even if i fail.
Q: Is k12 homeschooling approved by the board of education for Texas?
please let me know =[ and is it free and a good program?
A: K12 is incredible!!! We're in our fifth year of using it. We don't use it through a virtual public school, though, we purchase it ourselves to use the curriculum, just like someone would purchase Sonlight or Abeka or Calvert to use on their own.
TXVA is not a statewide school - yet. So unless your child is in the grade they are accepting (now or next year) and you live in a district that is in it, you'll be out of luck until it's opened (if it is) to a larger market. Other school districts might jump on the bandwagon, though. That's what happened in KS, that has three K12 virtual schools. One opened, had great sucess, then another and another.
I would spend some time on the K12 site looking at the sample lessons and scope and sequence. You'll be amazed at the depth and breadth of the courses. Plus, the planning and progress tools are one K12's best features, IMO. They remove so much of the prep work of HS'ing, which I have no desire to do. Others love it and want to do it and it works well for them. I have too much on my plate to worry about the plan and prepping for it.
Let me know if you have other questions or concerns. There are many K12 groups, including a TX group, on Yahoo Groups.

Q: Why did the board of education make it so class of 09 and later HAS to pass "the testS" in order to graduate?
The classes before didnt have to pass them to graduate, only our class and beyond. its so hard now, nothing is right anymore, and that is why kids are so crazy these days, the borad of education is actually set up to fail! and that is not fair!
A: I don't know but that's so0o0o0o0o f***ed up! I'm gonna graduate in 2010! Grrrrrrr
