Q: What top colleges doesn't require an interview?
In UK or USA? What top colleges doesn't require an interview? Brown?

A: Many of the top universities do not interview students. Most of the Ivy League schools do -- but Stanford does not.

Q: Where can I view old US News top colleges lists?
Where can I view old US News top colleges lists, specifically the liberal arts college lists from 2000-2007.

A: Your best bet is to head to your city's local library. The US News makes print copies of that list every year, and sometimes library's will have already achieved really old ones, but they should have a least the last couple years available. They may or may not be available to check out, but that would be the BEST place to look for out-dated lists. But honestly, why bother with "old" lists. Each year doesn't change THAT much, maybe schools move up and down a couple places, but no school can change drastically from one year to another. That's just my opinion. Good luck, and hope the library suggestion works for you.

Q: How important are foreign languages for top 30 colleges?
Some of the top 30 colleges on USNews recommend 4 years of foreign languages. How much of an impact is it going to make if I don't have 4 years? I know USNews isn't always right, but if my parents consider its rankings sacred, then I have no choice but to go by it.

A: If the recommendation is 4 years, you should have 4 years....these schools get enough perfectly well-qualified applicants to fill the class several times over, and so if you can't be bothered to even fulfill the bare minimum of what they ask for, why should they pick you? Admission to the top schools isn't a sure thing for anyone, so why hurt your chances even more?

Q: What are the top psychology colleges for undergrads?
What are the top psychology colleges for undergrads? Specifically Public and in or around Illinois or in Colorado.

A: That will be difficult to find, since there are no reliable ratings of these programs. You may find some ratings based on popularity, but little based on data. So, find campuses you are interested in, and in IL and CO there are a limited number, and e-mail each one and ask for their students' scores on the GRE Psych exam. The problem is that only a fraction of psych grads take that exam. Psych is one of the most popular majors, but not everyone wants to go to grad school in psych.

Q: What are top colleges looking for?
I was discussing colleges with a friend of mine tonight, and now I'm confused. She said that colleges want a well-rounded student. This is what I thought at first, but when I talked to a Harvard alum and admissions officer, they said they were looking for a well-rounded student body. She said she saw a special with the admissions officers from the top seven schools and that they said they were looking for A and B students with jobs and sports. Isn't that a little ridiculous? I mean, if everyone who went to these schools had these exact factors in their favor, then they would probably have the same outlook on life and the debates would most likely consist of only two or three words. What do the top colleges really want?

A: Good colleges are looking for students that can work hard and figure out problems. They are not necessarly looking for students with super grades or super athletic capabilities. They only look at those factors because it is an indication of your willingness to work hard. The bottom line is, they want a student that has proved himself/herself to be a hard worker.

Q: What are the top colleges to major in history?
My boyfriend is starting to look for colleges (finally) and we're trying to find something close together. I'm going to the University of Iowa for a Creative Writing Major, and I know they have History Majors available there, but does anyone know how this program ranks compared to other colleges'? He's mostly interested in Current World History, if you can major in such thing, but if not he's pretty much stuck on history in general. So. What are the best colleges in America for a History Major, and what are the best ones close to the University of Iowa?

A: There is no RELIABLE ranking system of universities by major...there are only opinions, some notoriously biased and/or unreliable. Almost every college/university in the country offers history, although their individual course offerings vary considerably. Thus, the courses they offer is what your boyfriend should be looking at. A good starting point to find a listing of colleges by state is http://www.college-scholarships.com, which links to college sites and provides contact information as well.

Q: where can I find a list of the top ranked 100 colleges?

A: Try Princetonreview.com

Q: What are the top colleges in CA for a business major?
I've been thinking about switching over to an accounting/finance or economics major (or both) and would just like to know which colleges offer the best program for a BA in these majors in California. Maybe make a list or link somewhere with a ranking?

A: UC Berkeley has one of the top undergrad prgorams in the country (Haas), but its pretty tough to get in and nearly impossible out of state. USC (Marshall) is great too, I guess it just depends which school you like more and can get into.

Q: What are the top Journalism colleges?
Yeah, I am a senior in high school and I am interested in going to a university majoring in journalism. I would like to know what are the top universities or colleges for journalism?

A: Check out this link: http://www.squidoo.com/bestjschools/ There are several pages/institutions listing the "top schools" -- just make sure it matches your interests and has professors whose work you admire. Faculty with experience in your desired field will really help, and they can end up being good contacts later -- often they're friends with editors or are editors themselves, which may come in handy when you need someone to take a chance with your work when you're starting out A few more links: http://www.poynter.org -- General journalism info, current trends, resources for future journalists. http://cronkite.asu.edu/ -- Arizona State University, Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication -- where I got my degree. http://www.asne.org/kiosk/careers/carerdet.htm -- from the American Society of Newspaper Editors, on why to choose (or if you should choose) a career in journalism.
