Q: What is the best region to attend college?
i stay in tennessee and ill graduate high school in 2 more years. Im thinking about attending an out of state college. I would like to know any information about the different regions...westcoast, midwest, mid-atlantic(eastcoast), south, southwest. Any and all information will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks :)

A: the pacifc northwest, you know, like washington or oregon. There is no humidity like tennessee and on the west side of the states it rain quite a bit and has lovely, lush forests, in cluding a rainforest. There are big cities like Seattle-Tacoma and Portland. But if you like a smaller feel, though not clausterphobic, the WSU (Washington State University) Tri-Cities. It is in south eastern washington and there is roughly a population of 200,000 people, compared to 4.5 million. We have a lot of new job openings, mainly in science and enginnering. We have Battelle, a scientist's lab, Hanford, lots of enginneers work there. Hanford is also where they mad the atomic bomb that they dropped in WWII. We have a good cost of living, although not the cheapeast. We have a lot of farmers because we are the 3rd largest producer of wine in the USA. We have an airport the makes daily connections to Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, and Denver. We have 3 large rivers that are fun to go boating or swimming in in the summer months. Our crime rate is realtively low, too. The Pacific Northwest is a great place to live!

Q: Does anyone know of any fun College Towns in the Midwest?
I go to a small private university in Southwest Michigan, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a fun college town that my friends and I could check out. The Indiana University- Bloomington campus- is exactly what I am looking for, but it is about 4 hours away and we are looking for something closer. Any ideas?

A: Western Michigan in Kalmazoo or University of Michigan in Ann Arbor or even Michigan State in East Lansing, all are close!

Q: What Southwest cities are job hotspots for beginning a career in finance?
I'm still got a year to go in college but I'm just exploring my options. I will earn a BA in Communication but I'm interested in financial field as well. I don't really want to move to the Northeast where I think alot of financial jobs are. What cities in Southwest (Texas to Nevada) have a strong job market in the financial sector? I realize that with my degree might limit my options but I could take a position as admin asst for a CFP or maybe a large investment firm just to get started. What are good cities both big and small to look at?

A: Arizona is quickly becoming a hotspot for finance. A lot of baby-boomers will be retiring there soon and bringing their $$ with them. Phoenix, Mesa, Henderson and Chandler are among the quickest growing cities.

Is it true that if you are transfering from a community college that you don't have the have a SAT to get in that when you transfer to a university that requires one that you don't need one. i am talking about Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands VA and i would like to transfer to UVA but i don't want to take the SAT, would i need to though?

A: The best advice is to call any school that you are interested in and obtain their policy since it may vary by school./

Q: I Am In Need Of Information On My College Professors?
I am looking for information on professors at Southwest Community College in Memphis, TN. I am studying Human Services and I would like to find out about the professors before I start on Jan. 16th, 2007. I went on www.ratemyprofessor.com and didn't have any luck. The site didn't have my professor's name. My professors are: VAVA F. COOK DOMENIEK L. HARRIS STEPHEN L. BLACK RUTHIE COUCH Please help me find information about them!

A: Try the following... myspace.com (under the section: grade my professor). Both of these services are free. If you are willing to pay $5 by debt or credit card (which is well spent in my opinion), you can register for an account on pickaprof.com which tells you the grade history of these professors, and offers written reviews by the students who took their courses. The reviews are helpful because usually, students will tell you more about the professor's grading and teaching methods, possible homework assignments, etc. Pickaprof can mean the difference between having a good GPA or a bad GPA, and I think it's the best choice out of all three websites. Also, sometimes professors may not be on any of these websites (unfortunately), because they are either new or students have not submitted any reviews. However, with pickaprof.com, you can see how many A's, B's, C's, D's and F's a professor gives out in a particular course. Good luck!

Q: Has anyone ever went to a small 4-year college/university in a small town?
I went to one my first year of college and it was a closed campus, had dorms, even though most students there lived off campus, and it was in Southwest Virginia where I lived. I went there right out of high school and I hated it so bad I went to a community college a year later, and actually liked and still like it better.

A: I attended a small private college in a small town. When I was a student, I didn't care much for it, but after I graduated and went to graduate school at a large university, I realized what I took for granted. The school was well organized and offered excellent financial aid. I didn't like that the night life wasn't exactly spectacular, but I later realized that because I wasn't distracted, I was able to finish college on time-- many other people who started college the same time I did took much longer to finish. Overall, in the long run, it was a very wise decision.

Q: Which of these colleges is better to attend?
I have been looking at three colleges. Southwest city college, Los Angeles city college, and Los Angeles Harbor college. I have been to Southwest and I like the campus and the size. I also have been to LACC and this school is a good size and has a good reputation in academics and well as southwest and harbor. Now harbor college I dont know much about. I did research on all the schools but I have not been able to choose. My question is which school would you recommend? Based on what you know and what I some what provided.

A: This depends upon whether your plan is to stop with the Associates' degree, or whether you want to transfer to a four-year college after two years. LACC has some good vocational programs, but I wouldn't think of any of these as being among the stronger community colleges in the L.A. area for academics, at least if you are university-bound. For that, I would look at Santa Monica CC, El Camino, or Pasadena CC. If you are interested in vocational programs, the others each have specific programs, and the one you choose would be the one which interests you.

Q: What Should I Do To Become A Commercial Pilot For Southwest Airlines?
I am currently 13 years old and want to have a career in commercial airline transportation. I would like to know what I should do to prepare for the career like Highschool classes I should take. I know you don't have to go to college just flight school , but I would like to know of a good college course to take because employers look for the better qualified person. I DO NOT WANT TO JOIN THE MILITARY AND GET A FREE EDUCATION THROUGH THEM. There is nothing wrong with the airforce, but with a war going on I don't want to risk it. Also what is the price range that it will be costing me? I have been looking around and it looks like $60 grand for flight school. Please help me decide. =Þ

A: Well, the military is the best route but your not sure about that one for now. Remember that it will be at least five more years until you can actually enlist and the war will hopefully be over by then. To become a pilot for a major airline, most people earn 4 year college degrees in an aviation related field (think engineering or aviation) and then go to flight school and get a commerical pilots license. The degree is not required to fly commerically but the major airlines (which are the ones that pay well) prefer to hire pilots that have degrees. Flight school is expensive but I'm not sure how expensive. Good luck!

Q: How much money should a recent college graduate expect?
I have a B.A. in business and I live in southwest Missouri.

A: That all depends where you land. I can't crunch those numbers for you, but from experience I would say it can be very beneficial to take a job that starts you lower, but moves you up with skills and experience you can only get on the job. I think helping you gain those, and moving you up appropriately are good things to look for, as well as promotion potential.

Q: what are some colleges in the southwest chicago suburbs area?
moderately nice schools any you can name will be helpful, thanks

A: Moraine Valley Community College Prairie State Lewis University(Romeoville) Has extensions.

Q: Should illegal/undocumented immigrants pay in-county tuition (cheapest) at their local college?
Most colleges in the southwest practice this. There is a don't ask/don't tell policy when it comes to educating those entering the country without documents. What do you think about this?

A: Absolutely NOT. This is in front of the California legislature right now in State Senate Bill 160 which goes beyond in-state tuition to provide financing. It is subsidies like these, which put illegals in front of US citizen children from other states that make it so attractive to illegals to come here. Everyone focusses on the 'employment magnet' but how many of you make sacrifices for your kids' education? These magnets have to be removed, separately from whatever happens to the illegals already here, or we will never meaningfully reduce the flow across the border. Provisions to pave the way for this are also in the Senate Immigration bill. Just one more reason it is a bad bill.
