Q: anyone here attends University of Phoenix Axia College? How is it like doing an online college?
thinking about going to college, but I don't know whether I should go with the traditional approach or do online to get my degree
A: I am a student at Axia and have been for over 6 months, like you I was nervous about an online school and finally said hey I have to start some where. I filled out my FASFA with the help of a counselor and have been taking classes every since. I am very happy with my experience. Now I know you are going to hear alot of rumors that I have not run into.
The first two classes are simple, a back to basics as you would say.
But after that the classes are challenging and fun.
I am a Criminal Justice major working on a Associates and plan on finishing up with a Bachelors with them. I have a few friends who have already graduated working very decent jobs.
Just remember when you sign up to have last years W2 ready and have the counselor walk you through it. I have gone to both traditional and online, and I have seen no difference. I think online is a little more challenging because you must have self discipline to finish it.
Q: Champlain College online or University of Phoenix ?
What is better than the other, a bachelor degree from University of Phoenix online or Champlain College online?? Please you’re feedback is very helpful, thank you.
A: Hands down, without a doubt, Champlain College. UoP is for-profit, meaning they are in it for the money, not the education. Employers look down on for-profit schools, such as, UoP, ITT Tech, and DeVry. Resumes usually get red-flagged or graduates of said schools get hired on as cheap labor.
I almost went to a for-profit school (DeVry), and they were relentless on getting me in and keeping me in. I withdrew on the first day because after consulting with many people, I learned how a degree from DeVry is worthless. I know try to keep other prospective students from falling into the for-profit trap.
After reading up on Champlain, they sound pretty good for a private, non-profit college. They are fully accredited by a governing body that is recognized by the US Dept. of Education. They have campuses in Canada, Ireland, and India. And they also have a high rank from U.S. News and World Report's guide to U.S. Colleges and Universities.
Take the sure thing. You will be better off in the end. Good luck.
Q: Do I want to move from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Phoenix, Arizona for college?
I am considering going to Arizona State University in Arizona. Currently, I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado and as you know, it is very cold here. Should I consider moving from a cold "habitat" to a warmer one?
A: There are a lot more opportunities out in the Phoenix area for jobs after graduation.
Q: Who goes to the university of phoenix/Axia college?
I need some help with my final in my crt 205 class.
A: I have two masters degrees from U of A. You e-mail me on subject matter and I will do my best to assist you. califcurt28@yahoo.com. I've obviously little to do at the present time. And tell me when you need the answer.
Q: Can I become a counselor or therapist by going to a college like University of Phoenix?
Really? I mean will people hire me once I am done?
I am sure it is BETTER to go to an actual university, but I am just curious.
I personally think UOP is evil - is there another alternative (for a lack of a better work) college I can go to?
A: UoP is accredited by the same level organization that accredits the University of Arizona and University of California -- they are indeed "real". They are also the single largest university in the US (by enrollment) and have campus sites all over the country. Their reputation isn't so hot, but that's not because they aren't accredited or because they don't have classrooms. Even though some people don't want to hear it - you can check for yourself at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/ ;North Central Association really does accredit them.
You can go to Harvard and Oxford online. 85% of all colleges in the US are teaching online now. It's 2008 and that's the way it is. http://www.extension.harvard.edu/2007-08/DistanceEd/courses/ don't listen to the wannabes - check it out for yourself. And they're cheaper than many state U's. Why go to local who-ever-heard-of-it community college and then transfer when you can take your classes at Harvard and then transfer?
There are plenty of good colleges and universities teaching online - I use the search tool at http://www.petersons.com/distancelearning/code/search.asp to find programs.
You might want to look at schools with a good reputation like Liberty, Penn State, SUNY-Empire State, UNLV, Columbia (Mo), NYIT, UMaryland, and UMass among others who offer a bachelor's online in psych.
Know that you'll need a master's in that field to get any sort of decent job and a doctorate doesn't hurt. Getting a counseling license will require some practicum time - you can't do that part online.
Is it really "better" to go to an "actual university"? How about if we compare Harvard University (online) and Eastern Your State University (classroom) - still "better"? How about Florida State (online) or your local community college (classroom) - still better? It's all about the reputation of the college - go to the best college you can get into (online or traditional) and you'll do well.
Q: Anyone gotten a degree from the University of Phoenix Online College?
Good or bad experiance?Do u think it was worth the cost?
I would be able to interact with my other classmates and instructor online.
A: I just asked the same question to my brother.... He said that it wasn't a bad experience but their grading is is off. When he started up at a different college he went from a 4.0 to a 3.0 and had to retake some courses. So my advice to you would be the same my brother gave to me.... FIND ANOTHER COLLEGE!! Good luck in your search.
Q: The low down on University of Phoenix Axia College?
I am getting so much bad rap about UOP Axia College online I don't know what to believe. I have applied for enrollment but have not been notified as of yet whether I have been accepted or not. I ran across many people complaining of ripoffs and professors not answering their questions etc etc. Anyone have a positive experience? I want to get my degree but I work 2 jobs and UOP Axia College seems to be a good fit and is affordable-yes I have to get loans to pay for it but paying back once I complete my degree should be quick and easy. Since I have not been notified yet I have time to separate fact from fiction so that if I am accepted and want to pull out I have 3 days to do so without penalty but I have done research for several months and have found what I thought were good things with online education but now that I have taken a step to being accepted I am finding sites of people claiming ripoffs and I don't know what to believe anymore. Any info is appreciated!!
A: I am currently a student at Axia pursuing a degree in IT and I can't say anything bad about them. My experience has been a good one so far and I'm about at the half-way point.
One note though is that I don't hear from my academic counselor that much but that's about it. If you have any other questions just let me know and I will try to answer them for you.
Q: Has anybody attended Axia College of University of Phoenix Online and how was your experience?
I want to go back to school to finish my degree and University of Phoenix has a program I'm interested in and their program can be complete online, which works well with my work schedule. I'm just curious as to other people's experience with the school.
Can you specify what industry you're pursuing?
I'm looking to complete an AA in Information Technology and then a Bachelors of Science in Information Technology/Software Engineering.
A: I am currently attending Axia of UOP and I am very pleased with the way the classes are formed and handled. Class sizes can are typically small and you can get lots of help when needed. My couselors, (Academic and Finance) contact me quite often to make sure things are going well. Should I have any questions the instructors are always prompt to respond and almost all even given you their personal number so that you can call them should time for email or posting your news group not permit.
Like anything in life, it's what you make of it. I will be very honest and say that it takes a lot of time and interaction to be successful in this class. Lacking the classroom setting can be difficult for people who are a visual learner. You must have your priorities in place before even attempting such a online college experience.
As I am sure it is with traditional colleges, online college such as Axia of UOP requires lots of participations. Like with most colleges, you will find yourself being involved almost every day of the week for sometimes hours at a time. Learning from a distance requires lots of personal discipline. Should you lack time management skills then Axia of UOP may not be a good choice for you.
Hope this information helps you make a decision. If you do decide that you can handle the manner in which education is taught at Axia of UOP, you will find it a very exciting experience. I have 2 more classes before my recieve my Associates Degree. I am finally seeing the light at the end of this tunnel and it only took me 18 months to get there.
Good luck and best wishes for whatever decision you decide is best for you.
Q: How accredited is University of Phoenix when compared to a State college for a Masters degree?
I want to go back to school and get my Masters degree. Online would be easiest due to working full time...but I am concerned with what the perceptions of quality is in the business world when contrasted against a Masters obtained at a State University.
A: It isn't a question of accreditation. it is a question of quality and the perception of quality.
University of Phoenix is accredited -- but it is not selective and it is not good. They were recently fined a record $9.8MM for sleazy recruiting practices. I've read that they are currently under investigation for padding their placement numbers. They accept nearly anyone who applies -- so employers do not trust that their graduates know anything. Companies like Intel have decided not to pay for their employees to take classes there because they lack rigor.
In addition, it is a For Profit corporation -- so not only is it not as respected as a state school -- but it is much more expensive. In my opinion, you would do better to get a tattoo on your forehead that says "I have a bad education." It would be equally effective and a lot cheaper.
Q: Is it better to attend the University of Phoenix, or a 4 year college to receive a Bachelors in Accounting?
What is the difference, and will employers consider the school?
A: With UOP, it really depends on your field of study and total resume. I have never had a problem getting a job with any of my nursing degrees: Associates from a private college, Bachelor's from a state university, and Master's from an online university (UOP). But note that UOP and online came after I had earned two degrees the old fashioned way.
UOP is accredited by several bodies. Use this list when talking to recruiters/employers: http://www.phoenix.edu/about_us/accreditation.aspx
Talk with professional organizations and certification bodies. Contact recruiters/employers before you register. Ask questions like: Do they require you to attend a certain type of school? Does your school need to be accredited? By which specific bodies? Use this information when you are looking at any school, not just UOP.
There are good and bad stories about every school (happy students v. unhappy ones). The opinions that count are those of the professions listed above. Do your homework with every school you're looking at and you will minimize your headache later on.
Q: Would an on line degree from the University of Phoenix be as high of a quality as from a traditional college?
I would like to get a Bachelor's in either Finance or Accounting, and have been taking some classes online through University of Phoenix, but have become burnout on the early classes because of the team work and paper writing. I'm beginning to wonder if a degree earned at a traditional college might be more respected in the workplace. Does anyone have advice or experiences with UoP that they would like to share?
A: If I were an employer I'd have far more respect for the person who attended a traditional college than one who went strictly online. There is no real value in UoP and they are not accredited under the same standards as a traditional university. They're nothing more than a for-profit diploma mill.
Q: has anyone ever been caught cheating at Axia College or University of Phoenix?
If so, what was the outcome?
A: employers don't respect UOP
read @ http://www.uopsucks.com
Q: Which college do you think is better University of Phoenix or Everest college?
A: here are some search results
Q: Is an MBA at University of Phoenix as good as any college?
I am going back for my MBA, and I wanted to go to UoP but all my co-workers and friends tell me not to, that I should go back to Temple because lots of companies like Johnson and Johnson, Merck, and GE will not accept it. Should I listen to them? How valuable is this MBA, will anybody discredit it?
A: If you know what companies you're interested in working for, it might benefit you to go right to the source and find out what schools they hire from. My guess, however, is that they will confirm what your colleagues are telling you: the University of Phoenix is not considered a reputable program by many companies, and AACSB accreditation does carry far more weight than the alternatives (which you can confirm by looking at the schools that have it and comparing them to rankings). If you end up going for an online degree, look for one offered by a more traditional college.
Q: I'm thinking taking an online degree program (associates in info tech) @ Phoenix college?
and I'm wondering what type of experience others have had, and what types of job opportunities are available, ie; what type of pay to expect, how easy is it to find a job, how marketable are the skills learned are
A: Expect low pay and expect many companies to just toss your resume. U of P has a bad reputation. See the link below for news articles about the "school."
