Q: I need Suggestions and recomendations for good online colleges?
I need a few suggestions for online colleges. I am looking for classes in the medical field or criminal justice. Does anyone know of any good online colleges that offer these programs, and if they are really worth the money ?

A: If you absolutely have to take college courses online, I would choose an online college that has a main campus. There are plenty of them. I hope this helps.

Q: Are standard colleges considered better than online colleges?
By online colleges, I mean an accredited college that allows you to earn a degree online (University of Phoenix, etc). I would like to complete the majority (if not all) of my BA online if at all possible & then apply to medical school. The thing I am worried about is that medical schools will look down on this type of education vs a physical "in class" college. Is there any negative stigma associated with "online" colleges where you earn a real degree? Are they just crap?

A: In my opinion they are equal. From what i hear you end up with the same educational degrees. This is why i highly doubt medical schools will care where you went to college if you end up with the same degree. If you happen to have an interview you can state your reasons for attending online colleges, for example part time working to earn extra money? This shows hard working initiative. If you dont have a job mention that online courses suited you better. From my point of view the only thing you would be missing out on is a personal 'college experience' etc. However this may not be important for some people as well as medical schools.

Q: Are any online colleges accredited really? Is there any I could use to transfer to UW?
I just moved to WA and the community colleges are trying to charge me $2,500 for just 2 classes a semester! I was only going so I could be making progress before applying to University of Washngton in the fall, as I will NOT be paying that much, are there any online colleges that really are accredited and I could use those credits at UW, and that also wouldn't make my application look bad? plus are they all just as expensive, because they seem to be high in price too.

A: There are tons of Accredited online programs. Many brick and mortar colleges have online programs. The reason you are being charged so much is because you just moved. You are considered an out of state resident unless you have lived there a certain time ( usually 3 months minimum to 12 months) before you are a resident in the eyes of the college.

Q: Where can I find a list of online colleges and the cost per credit hour?
This research is for a college paper that I am writing to compare online colleges versus traditional colleges as far as cost per credit hour, so if a list of traditional schools is available as well that would be perfect. I need a sample of at least 30 of each type.

Q: What are good online colleges to receive a bachelor's degree?
I have heard of some degrees that were earned through online courses that are for profit only that are frowned on by employers and companies and I've heard of ones that are just as good as going on campus, any recommendations? I would love to attend a college on campus but being a military spouse it's not easy to stick around in one spot long enough to attend a college on campus. Thank you.

A: The best online programs are at the best colleges. Almost everyone teaches online these days and include the likes of Harvard, UC-Berkeley, UMass, Columbia, UTexas, and 1000s more. Of course, the best colleges generally cost more than the lesser colleges but not so when comparing the for-profits. A class at Harvard or UC-Berkeley online will cost you less than one from UPhoenix or AIU. You'll get better transfer reception from the first two than the others. My favorite search tool for online programs is at Petersons.com http://www.petersons.com/distancelearning/code/search.asp You might be really surprised what's available to you completely online. Which is best depends a lot on what you want to get a degree in. For example, Boston U offers their master's and doctorate in music online. Not so useful unless you want to study music. UMass (http://www.umassonline.net/) has an awesome selection of fully online programs as an example for you. UMaryland has a nice selection of online programs AND has a campus on many military bases. http://www.umuc.edu/mil/mil_home.shtml Many public colleges will give you in-state tuition as a military spouse - that can make a huge price difference for you. Bottom line though is to pick the best college you can get into and can afford. Remember, the first couple years are far less expensive if done at a community college. Cerro Coso Community College online (http://cconline.cerrocoso.edu/) is priced well and has a huge military student population. Also keep in mind that military education offices have CLEP, DANTES, and ECE exams available. You can knock out a lot of credit by self-study and testing.

Q: How efficient are online colleges?
How equivalent are they to regular colleges? if you go for a BA in criminal justice, is it as effective as degree that wasnt given online? which online colleges are good?

A: I found a site for you to check out. In my experience, I have found that on line colleges are the same as regular colleges, the only difference is that you learn in the privacy of your own home and not sitting in a class room. The best news is many employers accept on line degrees. Best of luck to you.

Q: Are there any online colleges who accept FAFSA?
I'm looking to finish school at an online university, majoring in elementary education. 99% of the schools I've talked to don't accept Government Financial Aid (FAFSA). They want me to take out loans that I don't necessarily want right now, financially. Are there any accredited online colleges that DO accept FAFSA as a form of financial aid?

A: Community colleges take FAFSA, and it is a growing trend for them to offer online classes. One thing to mention all but the student teaching will be done online probably. However, here is a list of places offering elementary education online with financial aid: http://www.saintleo.edu/SaintLeo/Templates/Inner.aspx?durki=641&pid=641 http://catalog.oregonstate.edu/MajorDetail.aspx?major=233&college=03 http://www.barclaycollege.edu/Academics/Programs/education.asp

Q: What do employers think of online collages versus brick and mortar colleges?
I am 19. I don't have a car not a license. I really want to start an online college. I was looking Art Institutes Online for their web design certificate course($18,000) and I recently stumbled upon Baker College online which tuition is cut in half. I want to eventually got to a brick and mortar collage in a few years. I just want to start a little now. I understand that UoP is a bad choice and I never even considered them. I want to know what most hiring employers think of online colleges. Also, if anyone knows which ones are legit and are worth it. Thank you to anyone who answers.

A: I have been going to the Axia College ( of U of P). I do not see why it is so bad. It is very hard work, and that school is accredited. It just so happens to be online. Society is just starting to accept online degree. You have to remember, we haven't even had the internet that long. I going to bet that in a few years, it will be more popular. I certainly would not try to find the cheapest college to go to. You are talking about your education. There is financial aid that you can get. These loans are deffered, until after you have graduated.

Q: How do you know what online colleges are recognized and are accredited?
What schools do you recommend to take for online college?

A: Congratulations on thinking about furthering your education, you won't regret it. When you choose a school, make sure it is at least regionally accredited. You can check accreditation at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/search.asp You can also check accreditation at http://www.chea.org/search/search.asp You can learn more about accreditation at http://www.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html Don't bother going to the website mentioned in the answer above mine. It mainly directs the user to for-profit schools and there is at least one school on their site that is UNACCREDITED. You have been warned. Also, the statement, "Ivy league" of online schools, I laughed out loud when I saw that one. The true Ivy League schools are Ivies because they are selective and their graduates tend to be the best. For-profits are only selective to the point of your ability to pay them or how much debt your willing to take on. I'm not saying you won't get a perfectly valid education from an accredited, for-profit school, just that you will overpay for it. The state universities and community colleges will be the best and least expensive way to further your education online. Usually degrees obtained online from state universities and colleges will be no different than a degree granted to a student sitting in class. You probably won't get a scholarship, but financial aid is possible. If you are just starting your college education or have less than 60 semester credit hours, try your local community college first. They may have an online AA degree program. If they don't, try other community colleges in your state. Once you have an AA degree, you can enroll in an online bachelor's degree completion program at one of the state universities. Many state universities now have online degrees. The following are some websites to get you started. http://www.fhsu.edu/virtualcollege/ http://www.peru.edu/offuttafb/degreeprograms/onlinelearning.htm http://outreach.uwyo.edu/ocp/ http://www.distance.msstate.edu/ http://www.distancelearning.ufl.edu/degrees.aspx http://www.apu.apus.edu/index.htm http://www.online.uillinois.edu/ http://www.depts.ttu.edu/ode/CollegeOverview.asp When comparing tuition costs, you have to check if the school is on semester or quarter credit hours. To convert from quarter hours to semester hours, divide the tuition by 0.67. For example, if tuition is $180 per quarter credit hour, that is equal to $268.66 per semester credit hour. Finally, there are a couple of forums online with members who have obtained their degrees online. Some have gone pretty far with their online degrees. The forums are free to join but you can read the forum without joining. You just won't be able to post. http://forums.degreeinfo.com and http://www.instantcertonline.com/forums Good luck

Q: What are some of the online colleges that can lead to a career in Diplomatic and International Translation?
Hi, I was wondering if I could find an Online college where I can get a degree and end up working as a translator at an Embassy. I was also wondering what category would translation be under?

A: This is a difficult question to answer, but I believe Georgetown University has a program with Diplomacy as well as Linguistics, or you can choose from a multitude of languages: Arabic, Chinese, East Asian Languages, Eastern Mediterranean Languages, Italian, Slavic Languages, Spanish and Portuguese, and many more.
