Q: What are the best colleges for nursing in New York? Is NYU a good one?
I want to become a nurse b/c their are a long line of doctors and nurses in my family. So, i've decided to become one and im deciding to go to a college in new york since i live on Lon Island. Now what are the best colleges in New york for nursing? Is NYU good?
A: NYU nursing is good, being that NYU is in general a prestigious school. There's also the Beth Israel School of Nursing, Columbia School of Nursing, and a few others. I'd say Columbia has the best just being an Ivy and all, but as a current NYU student, I'm going to say that I see a lot of smart people walking around in scrubs, so we're not too bad.

Q: How will my credits transfer from CSU East Bay to community colleges for the nursing program?
I took my pre-reqs. at Cal State East Bay for their nursing program and I am applying to community colleges as well. Will my credits transfer because CSU East Bay goes on a quarter system and community colleges usually go by semesters? Was anyone able to do this?
A: How funny, I am in the Nursing program at CSUEB. anyway, I was able to transfer credits from a community college to CSUEB, so I am sure that it should work the other way around. Go to Assist.org. That is how I figured out what classes would be transferable. Good luck with Nursing!!
Q: What colleges offer good nursing bachelor programs?
I'm a freshman in my second semester and I'm worried that I won't get into the nursing program at my college. Are there any schools you recommend have great nursing programs with BSN.
A: As a RN of 35 years, I am a diploma RN. The present day BSN programs focus on getting you to pass your boards and does not prepare you for life as an RN.
More important than worrying if you are going to be accepted into your college program, what is your college NCLEX pass rate? I find that many programs, even the high paid private colleges, have poor pass rates. many do little to nothing to support those that struggle to pass the NCLEX once they have passed you through their program and have taken your money.
My suggestion to you. is do not sweat the small stuff. If you do not get accepted into your program, consider taking a community college program that has a good reputation. Get your associates degree, then go onto to get your BSN.
This will give you the ability to have your future employer pay for your future education.
If you are hell bent on getting your BSN right away, check out the pass/fail rates of NCLEX at the colleges in your area.
If you work in health care, ask the nurses where the best programs are. Interview the nurse managers and ask where do they see the best new grads gradate from and is there any program that they would recommend.
Nurses are very opinionated and will be very open about this subject.
i would also recommend that you start checking out Magnet Status facilities. These hospitals promote nursing and your experience in these types of facilities will be unlike any other hospital experience.
Check out if there are internships available at these hospitals. This is where you may want to pursue working as a CNA to get experience and have an "in" at the facility level.
Nursing is a very tough field. I have a son that after the military went onto attending community college for the first 2 years ( to save money) and then transferred to a private college for his last 2 years.
He graduated last May and is presently working full time in SICU in the largest teaching hospital in the country. He is working to start his master in anesthesiology.
Good luck in your future as an RN. Be smart and do your homework. Actually, when it all comes down to it, no one care where you graduate from, they just care that you passed your boards. You want a program that gives you the practical clinical experience and the knowledge to feel confident to practice nursing once you graduate.

Q: What are some colleges with good marching bands and good nursing programs as well?
I am in high school right now, but I am already looking into colleges. I am in our school's marching band and choir and I absolutely love it. I have recently decided that I want to pursue a career in nursing instead of becoming a music major. I'm not sure what school I want to go to but would like to know if anyone has any suggestions?
A: don know
Q: What are some great colleges with nursing programs in Miami,FL?
I currently live in Jackson, MS attending Mississppi College. For spring break I traveled to Miami and fell deeply in love. I'm transfering in August 08 and I can not decide on a school. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
A: This website gives you information on all of the schools that offer nursing in Florida.
www.allnursingschools.com/find/Florida/nursing-schools.php
There are quite a few schools that offer nursing including public and private institutions, some of the best programs are in south Florida. If you have the money and are willing to spend it, the University of Miami , Nova Southeastern University and Barry University, are all private schools highly regarded in the medical and health-services field. While these schools may be expensive, you may qualify for financial aid or scholarships so that is definitely something to look into. Now if you want something cheaper you can always look towards Florida's public universities. In that regard I would say FIU, then FAU. After public universities your next option is community college. Many community colleges' have great nursing programs and they are often not given the credit they deserve. Also the cost is dramatically lower than what you will pay at university.
Two of the best community colleges in Florida are in South Florida:
Broward Community College- rated #1 in the country for nursing degrees awarded. ( I actually attended BCC, I loved it and the nursing program is highly regarded...plus Nova Southeastern is right across the road so if you decide you want to continue your education you can always transfer there.)
Miami Dade College- rated #3 in the country for nursing degrees awarded. Great school, and just like BCC you will be in an area where nurses are in extremely high demand.
The last option is schools like University of Phoenix and Kieser Career College. Now what I am about to say is purely MY opinion. I don't think these schools are very good. I am very weary of these schools and the education that they provide. But that is my opinion, and you should do more research on your own to help you decide if perhaps this is the right choice for you.
Email me if you have any more questions, about nursing or housing or anything else : ) Good Luck!
Q: psychiatric nursing colleges?
I would like to know what are some colleges that offer this. also, I have been going through some issues this year and missed months of school so my GPA won't be the greatest. will the schools still accept me? and if I can get in, is it general psychiatric nursing or can I specialize in working with adolescents?
A: I am at a public university in the nursing program. We do different areas of work each semester. The first semester is med-surg, second is geriatrics and pediatrics, third semester is psych and research and the fourth semester is med surg again. I would think most nursing degrees would be similar. Once you've got your BSN, you could specialize with a masters in psych.
Q: What are some good colleges for Nursing Degree in Houston Tx?
I'm looking for a good college to attend in Houston, Tx. I just moved in about a year ago.
A: If you're looking to just get your Associates Degree in Nursing to become an RN, then it would be much cheaper for you to go to a community college. San Jacinto Community College has one of the best RN programs in Houston, but depending on what part of Houston you're in you might want to consider North Harris Comm. College, Lee College, or Houston Comm. College.

Q: What are the best colleges/universities for a BS in Nursing?
I will be applying to colleges soon and I want to get my BSN and continue on to be an RN or NP. Which American or Canadian 4 year universities have the best nursing programs? Is the University of Texas @ Austin nursing program any good? Thanks for any help!
A: Honestly, as long as the school's nursing program is accredited by either the NLNAC or the CCNE then the school is just fine. You don't need to go to a big-name school with a well known reputation to get an excellent education in nursing, and going to a lesser known school will not impair your career prospects or future educational plans if you want to go on to grad school.
Q: whats the best colleges in california for nursing?
im a sophomore in high school and im looking to be a surgical nurse. whats some of the best colleges? should i go to communtiy college first? if so what colleges? thanks.
A: UCSF only has a graduate nursing program. UCLA offers a B.S. in Nursing. UC Irvine and University of San Diego also have bachelors in nursing (University of San Francisco has it too) None of the good schools have surgical nurse as a bachelors (Loma Linda University has it, but i dont think its all that good) A number of CSUs have nursing, but UCLA, UC Irvine and USD are better.
Univ. of San Diego is the only good school in CA to offer a graduate surgical nursing program. There are good out of state schools that offer a grad program in surgical nursing. Those are, John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, Case Western Reserve Univesity in Cleveland, OH, University of Virginia in Charlottsville, VA and University of Washington in Seattle, WA.
Going to community college first is not a bad idea. You can finish all your general education there and then transfer to a 4 year school. It will save you a good chunk of money. There are also some great schools with nursing programs out of state too.
