Q: Are previous college credits required on the admission application to a new college?
Is it possible to start off fresh by not including previous college credits and just using my high school transcript when applying at a new school? Obviously, I will have to re-take any classes that I have already taken.
A: no, they're not required. only if you plan to carry over the credits at your new school. you can just submit your high school transcripts and that's perfectly fine.
Q: What college would be best if i wanted to become a state trooper in New York?
Im currently a sophomore and im looking for a college that would help me become a police officer in New York. I don't care what college I attend just i would like to know which one is best.
A: Any college will be fine. I would recommend not majoring in Criminal Justice though. Law Enforcement is rather selective, and if you don't get hired for whatever reason, then what are you going to do? Most agencies do not care too much about what the degree is in, as long as you have one. I have 10 years in the military and a 4-year degree and I never took a single CJ class. You should focus on getting good grades, keeping a clean background and staying out of trouble, no drug use, and getting and staying physically fit. Pick a major that you would be interested in if you couldn't become a police officer.
Q: How may years of foreign language should i take to get into a good college in New York?
I live in New York toward Canada and I am on my third year of french and hate it to death. My teacher says most colleges want to see four years of foreign language.... I can not see myself being happy taking amother year of it
do college like to see 3 or 4 year of it please help
A: Most colleges just want what's required which is 2 years. But if you want to get into the better colleges its usually 3-4 years. Im going to take four years just in case.
Q: What is the best college in New York and what kind of scholarship I will get?
What is the top best college's in New York, and what kind of scholarship I will get for my grades, is there is a web site that tell about scholarship??
A: 1. Columbia
2. United States Military Academy
3. Cornell
4. New York University
Q: How do you go about going BACK to college (already with a degree) to get a new major?
I graduated from college with a bachelors in contemporary arts in 2003 or so. Now, I want to go back to a different college to get a new degree in Film or TV Production. Is this something that can easily be done, i.e. will they see that I already have a degree and I won't have to take all the BS classes again?
A: You DO NOT have to start all over again. As long as the college you went to initially was a nationally accredited college. Go talk to the Dean of admissions or look online at the college website. You should only have to take the classes that you have not completed based on their curriculum for the degree you want.
Q: What is the best neighborhood in New York City for a new college graduate to relocate to?
New college graduate looking for a a studio apt under $1100 per month in a safe neighborhood. Suggestions on where to look and/or neighborhoods to avoid?
A: most grads live downtown in the village. artsy folk, alternate lifestyle, philosophical, poets, beer guzzlers and grass smokers. however, the new smart trend is to move to brooklyn where rent is about 60% cheaper and still only a $2.00 subway ride away from manhattan
Q: What operating system should I get in a new college laptop?
I'm going to get a new laptop for college and my parents have made clear it has to be Windows, but my dad and I want to special-order XP, but my mom pointed out other freshmen will buy laptops off the shelf (with Vista).
I was against a Vista laptop because I was worried it would be too slow or include Office 2007 (which I haven't used yet), but if I want to keep my laptop throughout college... Vista will be the Windows standard.
A: XP will be the standard at most colleges for awhile. Vista isn't bad but it's still new and I'm sure it's full of bugs and security exploits that just haven't been found yet.
Stick with XP. You could always get a Vista laptop and install XP on it to create a dual boot machine. You can buy XP pretty cheap if you search online.
Q: What is the highest amount of financial aid I can get from Juilliard College in New York?
It is my dream to get onto Broadway and I want to start in a college in New York so I can start being seen. Right now, my dad says I can only go to one we can afford, which right now, Ball State is my highest option here in my home state of Indiana. I want to get into Juilliard SO bad! Money is the issue, though. Can anyone give me the entire run down of the financial aids provided from Juilliard, and perhaps New York University, as well?
A: Here is the schools page on fin aid.
http://www.juilliard.edu/admissions/financial.html
I also would like to note the 40K per year price tag because it's well.. expensive!! Have a backup. That is even IF you get in.
Q: How hard is it to find any kind of work for a newly college graduate in New York City? Read Below?
I am considering moving to New York city after college (my major is Journalism) and I just was wondering how tough is it to find work in The city. I will be willing to work anywhere to just to get my feet wet and I have experience in writing for a news paper and working for a television station so I was just wondering how tough would it be. I would even be willing work somewhere other than media at first in NYC.
A: What's your degree in? The economy has tanked, so you're certainly not alone. If your time is several hours behind or ahead of mine in Charlotte, NC---then you must be planning a move to New York. Expensive as h*** especially in the city. But then too wages are much higher than down here. Plus you can join a union there, the South just doesn't like unions. My Dad helped form the Communication Workers of America (CWA), went on strike, and Southern Bell got real, if ya catch my drift ;>)
My hub's from across the river in Clifton, NJ--I'll talk to him & maybe he can provide some suggestions.
Q: How can I find out if my college credits from my current school will transfer to a potential, new school?
I am considering moving sometime in the next year and am worried that the credits I have at my current school will not transfer to the new college. I am hoping there is a way I can find out without contacting the admissions & records department of either school, rather, a fairly accurate list of which schools use which accrediting institution and who accepts classes from whom.
A: The safest way is to contact a counselor in your chosen major's 'school' i.e., School of Business, etc at the new school.
Also, another thing is to find out what accredidation system your current school is a part of and then the new school's as well. It's on their websites. Then you should be able to find a list of accepted accredidations as well. Warning: If you are wanting to transfer as a 'transfer student' beware that each school and program has specific rules as to what constitutes a 'transfer student'. I would strongly advise you to contact the school to make sure you cover your bases.

Q: What happens if I am on academic probation at Rutgers College New Brunswick?
Hi I am currently a freshman at Rutger College New Brunswick. I had a rough 1st year at school (due mainly to family problems) and I was wondering what happens if I am placed on academic probation? I need to take alot of classes next fall and I was wondering if there is a credit restriction by any change and if there is how I might be able to get out of it. Thanks.
A: Hey, I completely understand. I was on academic probation freshman year too, and lost my scolarship, ouch. The best thing to do is retake any classes you failed with a different professor. At Rutgers, F grades can be changed to whatever you get the second (or third) time around. The F will show up on your transcript, but wont be calculated into your GPA.
Next piece of advice, talk to your advisor. I know Rutgers FEELS like its a monsterously huge place sometimes, but the deans really do care, and want to get you on track.
I know you "need" to take a lot of classes next semester, but try to limit yourself to 15 credits so you can focus on those classes. Try to figure out why you failed in the first place and work on improving those skills.
Also, TAKE EASY A CLASSES. You have to get your GPA up, and if you don't by the end of next year, you are kicked out. Look on web sites like ratemyprofessor.com when picking classes to find those that you can use to boost your GPA.
Good luck, if you have any questions, shoot me an e-mail.
Q: How do you get to Briarcliffe College from Brooklyn to Bethpage, New York?
I want to visit Briarcliffe College that is located in Bethpage, New York (which is Long Island). I lived in Brooklyn, New York but don't know how to get to the college by train and car. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get there by train and by car. Thanks.
A: Well, go to the website for the college and get their address. Put that in www.mapquest.com. Then choose "get directions to this location" and enter your address as the origin of the trip. This gives you directions. As for trains, go to Amtrak.com and find where the nearest station is to Bethpage, NY, and the closest to you. This will let you know if any trains do that route, and how much it costs.
