Q: what is the best college for math and sciences in Manhattan?
I am a high school student planning for college right now and I really want to major in Physics with a minor in chemistry or mathematics. With this in mind I know that the ideal school for me would be one that's good in math or sciences. I also love manhattan, so what's a good science/school in manhattan.

A: Columbia first; NYU second; CCNY third. There is nothing wrong with CCNY academically; don't let the academic snobs tell you otherwise.

Q: Its ASA the college for exlcellence located in brooklyn and in herald square in manhattan a good college?
If not, which is a good college to get an associate degree, in NYC?

A: NO, this is NOT a good college. It's really a diploma mill, masquerading as a college. I agree with the person above me. Check out the CUNY schools - Kingsborough Community College, Manhattan Community College, Medgar Evers College - I'm sure there are many other good ones that I just can't think of right now. Good luck!

Q: Does anyone know if the Borough of Manhattan Community College has student housing?
I've looked on their website and can't find it anywhere. I was just hoping someone attends the school and could give me some info.

A: no community colleges in NYC offer housing...very few if any in NY state do at all...community colleges are generally 'commuter schools'

Q: Out of all these schools which is th best and worst: Manhattan College, St. John's University, Stony Brook Uni?
I was accepted at all 3. I'm planning on majoring in journalism or pre-law. Please give me a lot of insight and not just a two-lined reponse. Thanks. By the way St. John's is going to give me a $12,000 scholarship but Stony Brook only COSTS $12,000 a year...

A: All three are fine schools, though Manhattan College (which is actually in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, not Manhattan) is predominantly an engineering school and probably not the best fit for your intended field of study. St. John's University is a private Jesuit school in Jamaica, NY (in a quiet part of Queens borough of New York City). The campus is not especially big because it's in a dense residential neighborhood. It's good for those who want to be reasonably close to the hustle-and-bustle of New York City. SUNY Stony Brook is a public school out on Long Island, where it's a lot spread-out. Much bigger campus out in the LI countryside. Good for those who prefer peace and quiet. It's 50 miles from the hustle-and-bustle of Manhattan. For your particular situation I'd say SJU is probably the choice that makes the most financial sense. Hopefully you would have visited all three campuses. If you have, as I mentioned previously you should ask yourself if you can see yourself spending 4 years there. Good luck.

Q: My daughter is interested in Manhattan College in the Bronx!!! What info can you give me? Safety, academics..?
I'll take and appreciate any information on this college and it's surrounding area!!

A: If you're not from the NYC area - it's different to say the least. Located in Riverdale at the Westchester County line. Riverdale is a pretty nice NYC area and it's safe. The entire campus is built on a hill, so get used to stairs. It has easy access to Van Cortlandt Park and the NYC subway system. The Engineering school is top-notch.

Q: I have low sat scores does anyone know a college/cuny college in Manhattan thats easy to get in to?
I looked everywhere. You name the college I can tell you all about it.

A: You start with a community college. Most are open admission, so you don't have to have a minimum SAT score or GPA. Bring up your performance/grades there, and then transfer. It's cheaper, too, and you'll generally get smaller classes with more opportunities to get to know your instructors and get helped by them.
