Q: What colleges/ universities can you go to if you are interested in hair styling?
i am interested in hairstyling, i am almost done grade 12 and wondering what colleges/universities there are that specialize in hairstyling, or have courses you can take to become a hairstylist.
thankss =]
I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada , but i don't mind traveling to go to school.
A: go to google and search good hair colleges and then click on college of hair design
Q: How long does it take after you apply for colleges/universities to notify you of your acceptance or rejection?
How long does it take after you apply for colleges/universities to notify you of your acceptance or rejection?
A: it usually ends up taking about a month to find out. it depends on what time of the year you apply. their busiest time is in the fall about sept. or oct.
Q: If I graduate in 2009 when should I start applying to colleges/universities???
Please add specific details in what I should do and what I should send to the colleges/universities. Also what SAT scores are reasonable for acceptance????
A: Your high school guidance department is instrumental your senior year and will have all dates and time-lines established for you. They will no doubt provide opportunities for ACT and SAT preparation... take advantage of it. As for financial aid, the most important date is early January to submit your paperwork for FAFSA. You can certainly start applying now to colleges/universities, but be aware many now charge a fee to consider your application. You can best use your time now to decide the schools that meet your needs to narrow down your list. Once you have a list of perhaps 6 schools, you can find out their admission standards on-line; that means you'll know what kind of ACT/SAT scores are needed, in addition to GPA and other requirements.
Q: What good colleges/ universities in the Chicago area offer a 2 year Fashion Design Associates Degree?
My friend and I want to move to Chicago, but she is looking for a college or university in the Chicago area (can be in the actual city or in any of the suburbs) that will offer a 2 year associates degree in fashion design. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this. I've been doing some hunting to help her out, but this isn't my field, so I don't even know which colleges to be looking at... or what would be good...
Thanks!
A: I know someone who went to Columbia College in Downtown Chicago and liked it a lot. I am not sure how many people have become famous from going to that school, but it is well known Arts college in Chicago. They also do a lot with theater and photography and video production that they are known for. http://www.colum.edu/academics/Art_and_Design/Programs/fashion/index.php
Q: What are some good colleges/universities in the South with photography majors?
Im tryin 2 find out sum good colleges/universities in the South with photography majors
A: IT depends if you're looking for a pure art school (such as the aforementioned Savannah College of Art and Design) or a traditional college, but here are a few:
http://www.art.latech.edu/undergrad_photo.html
LA Tech, Louisiana
http://www.vcu.edu/arts/areas_of_study/undergraduate_majors.html
Virginia Commonwealth
University of South Carolina
http://www.cas.sc.edu/art/Sections/photostudio.html
Good luck.
You may also want to look at any school's art department. Some schools list their photography program's under "ART."
Q: Which colleges / universities offer a program for this?
I'm still in high school, and I'm trying to look for good colleges that offer courses I'm interested in.
I want to become a crime scene investigator, aka CSI. I'm going to be taking forensic science at my school next year, as well as chemistry.
But anyway, I'm looking for a college or university that offers programs that relate to this, preferably in Florida.
Any ideas?
A: University of Chicago for sure.
Q: Which colleges/universities offer the best Meteorology courses in Miami?
My father will not let me attend any college/universities out of Miami because he is a bit too much "OVER PROTECTIVE", I am planning to attend University Of Miami but I want to know do they offer good Meteorology courses?
A: http://www.rsmas.miami.edu/divs/mpo/
go to that link. It is helpful.
Q: Universities and Colleges for Chemistry or Biology?
I am looking to study biochemistry in college. I want to know good universities or colleges that provide this major. I am on a budget of about 20k a year, so no ivy league for me. I realize research colleges/universities are the better choice....any suggestions?
Personal experiences are appreciated.. thanks to all who reply.
A: like person above me said, California colleges have good science departments, but in reality, nearly every university/college has a science department. On the other hand, not as many provide a combination of biology and chemistry, but i know 90% of colleges provide a biology or chemistry major, and you could always double major if thats not a problem with you.
Q: When is the first day of classes for Universities and Colleges?
I know this varies, but generally, when are most universities starting classes? Do most Universities/colleges start the first week of September? Later, earlier?
A: It varies widely by school. I started fall classes this week. :-(
The other local college starts back late August.
Q: what are the best colleges or universities in the US to study animal behavior?
Im interested in comparitive pycholagy and i want a double major in another subject like zoolagy.I live in Verginia.I just finished high school last year. Im willing to move to another state to finf the best college/university in the US that have animal behavior subjects.
A: University of Southern California is one of the best.
Q: What are the schedules like for universities/colleges ? compared to high school ? like classes? read details.?
im a high school senior and i have to wake up at 7 in the morning and go to school until 3:05. 5 days a week. so my question is how is it like at colleges/universities? how many days a week do you go and what are the hours ? i live in California if you need to know.
A: You'll probably take five classes per semester, each of them meeting, say, twice a week for two hours. But the classes will be scheduled at all times, including evenings. If you go to a large university, then you'll pick not only which classes you want to take but which times you want. It depends if you're a morning person or an evening person which times you want to choose.
For example:
Mon -- English 10-12pm, Sociology 2-4pm
Tue -- German 8-10am, Statistics 2-4pm, Psychology 6-8pm
Wed -- English 10-12pm, Sociology 2-4pm
Thu -- German 8-10am, Psychology 6-8pm
Fri -- Statistics 2-4pm
But don't think that class time is the only time you'll be doing your work. In college, you'll be expected to complete a lot of homework outside class time. The key is to use those hours in between classes to get your work done. If you discipline yourself to work six hours a day either in class or outside it, then you'll do fine. If you goof off, like a lot of students do, then you won't do as well.
At the start of the semester, you'll be given a list of essays and projects to complete with due dates, and you're on your own in finishing them on time. Nobody will remind you or give you a detention. If you fail to do them, you'll just fail the course, not a nice prospect considering the cost of each one.
Good luck.
Q: List of Art Colleges/Universities not needing a Portfolio?
I was just wondering if someone could give me a list of art colleges/universities/institutes that do not require portfolios or that have classes on how to make portfolios? Thx
Ps: I am Canadian but I don't care if its in the states, also this is my last year of high school, I graduate this year.
A: In the US? The best one is probably the Savannah College of Art and Design. They're a decent art school, and yet they do not require a portfolio in order to get in.
Another is the Academy of Art University, in California. No portfolio is needed there, and in fact, they have open admissions. If you apply, you can attend. They have decent graduates, but because of their open admissions policy, a lot of people seem to go in ill prepared for art studies, and flunk out. I've also heard bad things about their methods. So I'd only use AAU as a back up to SCAD. SCAD is quite good.
At SCAD, though, you can get scholarships if you put in a portfolio, so it's worth your time to try to put something together.
This summer is the perfect time to put together a portfolio. A lot of art schools have summer art classes for high school students, and these can really help you get a portfolio together. Check the art schools near you. I know that Parsons and the Fashion Institute of Technology, both in NY, have such programs, as does the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and I believe that SCAD does as well.
To know what to put in a portfolio, go have a look at the portfolio requirements page at any art school that appeals to you. If you're at a loss for where to start, check Montserrat College of Art for starters. In general, even if you know you want to focus your work on one specific field, say, photography, schools want you to include drawings created from direct observation - that means drawing from life, not from your head or from photos. You can also include photography or what have you, but the drawing from life, and/or painting from life, is key. So this summer, try to take some sort of life drawing class - figure drawing, landscape, still life, etc. What you do in that class could well make up the brunt of your portfolio. Also take a class in some other form of art, your choice, and include those works as well.
Putting together a portfolio seems really intimidating, and it kind of is, but my portfolio was, literally, the drawings I did in still life class, the drawings I did in figure drawing class, and I think I included a woodcarving I'd done. Most of my work was from my two life drawing classes. You can do that in a summer.
Q: How are Colleges and Universities chosen for the "top" listing?
I just wanted to know what specific qualities does a investigator look for when they make the top 100 or 200 college/university list. So many people refer to listings like these, but how is it chosen? Graduation rate? Reputation? Winning stats in academic or athletic competitions? End Result quality? What is it?
A: It really depends on who is doing the ranking. Here's the FAQ from US News and World report about their college rankings. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/about/cofaq_brief.php
To the best of my knowledge, theirs is the most widely used college ranking.
But keep in mind that just because a school doesn't make this or that list, doesn't mean they don't provide a quality education.
Q: What colleges/ universities have the co-op program?
I recently traveled to Northeastern and loved the idea of the coop program, i'm just not to sure if i want to go to college in boston. does anyone know of any other universities that have a program like Northeasterns co-op program?
A: Drexel, Suffolk has a small program, Wenworth Institute of Technology, and Northeastern are the only ones I know of
Q: The financial aid advisors of universities/colleges, do they have the right to change your information?
The financial aid advisors of universities/colleges, do they have the right to change your information from your FAFSA application?
If not, what can I do?
A: They have the right to override it with your consent - this is called professional judgement. If you have a case where a financial aid officer has changed information without your consent, immediately report it to the FSA Ombudsman office.
You can contact them at:
