Q: Can you recommend me some good colleges in New York City that majors in editing?
I want to work for a fashion magazine (think Bazaar, Vogue, Vanity Fair, etc. or maybe even Seventeen & CosmoGirl!). I would want to FIT but it's too much into just fashion designing. Which colleges are the best?

A: Editing is not a major. You would need a degree in Journalism or English (I would suggest the English for you). FIT doesn't offer a fashion writing curriculum so that really wouldn't be the place to go exclusively. What you'd probably want to do is take your basic Journalism/English courses somewhere else and then you could take either individual credit or non-credit courses in FIT's Continuing Education and Professional Studies Program to familiarize yourself with the Fashion Industry. The expense will be much less this way. NYU is one of the best but is also expensive. You might try Pace University, or Fordham, or any of the City University or State University Schools.

Q: Can anyone give me some GOOD Performing Art Colleges in New York ?
Please =]. I want to major in thearte and I'd like to know any good colleges in NY that specialize in that.

A: Julliard is the best, very difficult to get into, very expensive as are all good pa colleges. I like SUNY Purchase for theatre as well. If you are interested in film as well as stage, I might recommend that you skip college and work on getting an agent and getting into the business. for more info read my profile and write to me at my aol addresss where I advise actors for free

Q: What all colleges in New York City are still accepting applications for fall 08?
I have a 3.3 college GPA, 3.85 GPA in high school, and a 28 on the ACT. I want to go to school in NYC. What schols could I still get in?

A: You'd want to look at the following NYC colleges: - Brooklyn College* - John Jay College of Criminal Justice - College of Staten Island - Long Island U, Brooklyn Campus - Manhattan College* - Saint John's U* - School of Visual Arts - Berkeley College - Columbia University, School of General Studies 7/1* - Saint Joseph's College, NY 8/15 Notice that I listed deadline dates for the last two schools. All of the others have rolling admissions, which means that so long as their class isn't yet full, if you're qualified, they'll admit you, even this late. You'd want to call admissions before you go through the effort of applying, because it's quite late in the admissions season and things may or may not be full: The colleges that I'd like to draw your attention to as good fits for your college GPA are starred, above. If you're willing to look just outside the city, you could also consider; Hofstra, Adelphi, SUNY Stony Brook, Long Island U CW Post Campus, Iona and Seton Hall.

Q: What really good colleges/ universities in New York can I get into??
I am a junior in high school and am in one honors and AP course of which I have a A in both. But I moved a lot in my previous years in high school and had to take standard classes, of which on my entire report card I got all A's and only a very very small amount of B's (freshman year), I am taking 4 AP's my senior year and am in the National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, and have a Principal's Achievement Award in Social Studies. I also have been on the High Honor Roll every Quarter since the beginning of my sophmore year. My cumulative unweighted Average is 94 and I have also done volunteer and community service work along with extra curriculars this year and next. I am also going to graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Designation and also with the title of Language Distinction (for taking 5 years of foreign language) What really good colleges or universities in New York can I get into??

A: Cornell ! If you're a NY State resident and you apply to the state college at Cornell, you can also get a discount on tuition. Really though, depends on what you're looking for. Colleges look for different things in their students - it's not just about classes. A student who is unique - eg. started their own business, programs for fun, is a championship horseback rider - will have an advantage over a "well-rounded" student. Schools want unique hard working kids. Also, it depends on whether or not you go to a quality high school or not. If it's a 94 average at a magnet school or a prestigious private school, you should be ok. If it's at a regular public hgih school you'll need more than grades to get in. I think a good school also might be NYU or SUNY Bing. Columbia too. PS a trick to get into a school that you really want is to take a class or two there over the summer and ace it - and make friends with the professors Good luck!

Q: Does anyone know of any universities or colleges in new york with songwriting as a major?
I would like to attend a university or college that has a major in songwriting. I am a singer but I love to write. =] Does anyone know of any good universities or colleges in New York that has songwriting for major? Thanks.

A: NYC? Songwriting is often called "composition" or similar, and is found under the music department, or sometimes as a special focus of a music major. Colleges in NYC that I know have this major are the Manhattan School of Music, Mannes Conservatory, and Juilliard. I also think that NYU and Fordham have it, and perhaps some of the CUNYs. Check their websites, and look in their schools of music or the arts, and also under their music majors, to see what they have to offer.

What can I do after I finish college? Besides being an art teacher? Some things that come to my mind are art critic, working at a gallery or something like that. What other careers are available and how much money can you make?

A: One of the better art colleges in New York is Pratt Institute. There are many careers options for an art major! I'll provide links for the school, art careers, and salaries ( but keep in mind that some of these require certain degrees, experience, and/or skill). Regardless, I hope this helps you. Good luck.

Q: Can somebody tell me the best colleges in New York City?
I am taking a survey on the best colleges. Thanks!

A: The previous answerers are just plain wrong. US News and World Report (as well as any college professor) will tell you that Columbia is ranked academically much more highly than NYU. For example, Columbia is ranked #9 and NYU is ranked #37 in US News' ranking of best universities in the US (see the link below). If you are interested in liberal arts colleges, Barnard is by far the best in NYC. US News and World Report (and again, any college professor) knows this. Barnard is ranked #27 among all liberal arts colleges nationwide.
