Q: What California colleges should I look at?
I am a junior living in Texas.
I got a 213 on my PSAT this year. My grades are relatively high, all are A's when weighted. I don't have a lot of EC's, just National Honor Society and National Latin Honor Society.
What colleges should I focus on in California (as in which colleges do I have the best chance of getting in)? I really want to go to UCSB but I'm scared I won't get in. I am also interested in SDSU.
A: PSAT scores are very indicative of how you'll do on the SATs, I can't believe what some write here!
With the 2100 plus you'll get on the SATs, you are too overqualified for SDSU and will find your peers there to be of pretty low academic capability. You can do much better!
The top UC's have been getting harder for OOS students to get into due to the budget crisis. Also, for the $40K per year (and no aid if you'reOOS) you'll pay as an OOS student, they probably are not the best value. Less than half are graduating in 4 years and that's getting nworse with classe cut because of the budget issues, so plan on paying for 5 years which makes it the same price as good privates.
I would look at Claremont McKenna, Scripps, Occidental, Pepperdine, Santa Clara for starters.
Q: What are some good art colleges in California?
So far from the list of colleges I've collected I hear that best ones are the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia (CalArt), and the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles are the best.
Are there any more art colleges in California on par with or better than the ones that I've listed or are these it?
Thanks in advance.
A: the only school i don't see on your list that i know of is the art institute
also i wouldn't go to the art center. to get in you need to start off with a really bad ass portfolio to get in the school. so far i've seen some people's skills quickly reach a plateau about half way through the course. this wouldn't be a problem if you weren't forced to pay every penny you own just to sit through the classes
Q: What colleges in California will accept me?
I have a 3.1 gpa, have taken ap and honors courses, and got a 1820 on the sat. What colleges in california could i get into? I'm also thinking about majoring in biology, but not sure.
A: I have been told that as long as you have a 3.0 gpa that any Uc school has to take you. Most of the time the school is Riverside. But with the SATs and Ap's and stuff you might get in to UC Irvine as well as UCSD and some others and most of the CSU's like cal state long beach will take you as well
Q: Is it hard to get accepted to California colleges?
I live in Kansas and i'd like to attend California State University-Fresno. Do you know if the college is any good? All info is welcome.
A: None of the schools in the CSU system are very selective or very good. While they provide a reasonable education for the price for California residents, paying out-of-state rates to go to one would be crazy. If you want a bad public university, you can find a much cheaper one in Kansas.
And Fresno is in the Central Valley? Have you ever been there? It is in the middle of nowhere -- three hours from LA and three hours from SF and three hours from the ocean in general.
If you want to go to school in California, go to a private university or a school in the UC system (University of California schools are all high quality). If you really do want to be in the Central Valley -- try UC-Merced.
Q: What are some good colleges in California?
I'm thinking of applying to (3) colleges in California, I'm from the East Coast, Pennsylvania. So would you please name some colleges that either have a good out-of-state acceptance rate or just any californian colleges that are good.
And please don't tell me to not go so far, because it's really up to me and that's my decision
Thank you in advance
A: All of the UCs have good out of state acceptance rate, mostly UCLA and UCSF
Q: What colleges or 2 year colleges can I go to in California when I'm older to become a train driver?
and by getting that will I be able in any state somewhere in the u.s. even though I might go to college in California?
A: if you want to be hired by some railroads they will train you, others only hire or prefer trainees of "choo-choo U" as it is affectionately known.
the national academy of railroad sciences, located on the campus of johnson city community college, in overland park, kansas, just south of kansas city is the best known academic training facility for railroad employees and hopefuls.
by the way, with the current economy, most railroad companies have many laid off employees, so depending on your age, your dream may have to wait until economic recovery allows new hiring in the transportation industry; good luck
Q: Where are some small, good colleges in California?
I really want to attend a college somewhere in California..not any big, fancy colleges like UCLA or anything, but decent smaller ones. I am not too familiar with the area, nor do I know exactly what I plan on pursuing in terms of degree. I know this is a general question, but your suggestions would be great.
thanks.
A: Hi -
I understand the desire to go to a smaller university: smaller classes, more intense work, etc. One of the universities in the Bay Area that is well-known and fairly small is St. Mary's College of California. I've heard through the grapevine they have some pretty good programs and have about 3,000 undergraduates versus more than 25,000 at some of the CSU and UC campuses. St. Mary's is located in Moraga, CA.
Another school I've heard good things about is Santa Clara University. They too have some good programs and a smaller student population - about 5,000 undergraduates. SCU is located in Santa Clara, CA.
Although both are Catholic universities, I understand that some people prefer to go there to get away from the larger schools. Both are also fairly expensive, so get your checkbook out!
Best wishes and good luck with school!
Q: what i said about colleges in california, and florida?
I have never been to california, but i just dont like the realy hot humid places. So when i go to college. I had already checked out FIndaly in OH, and i liked it but you can not bring your horse with you and also i would like somthing to do with rodeos and some other displines like halter some english and that type. Thanks
A: You either have REALLY really bad ADD or just crazy. The humidity isn't that bad once you get used to it either.
Q: what are good colleges around LA, California?
I'm from Mississippi, but i am looking into going to college in California around Santa Monica or LA. Do you know any good colleges or junior colleges?
A: junior colleges:
-santa monica college. this is a large, successful community college that basically opens the door for an automatic acceptance to ucla/calstate northridge/usc.
-el camino college. in torrance, which is near redondo beach. this is also a great community college. it is very large, offers a lot of classes, and one of the top community colleges that takes its transfer students to ucla.
4 year colleges/universities:
-loyola marymount university. rated one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. it's in marina del rey and one mile away from the beach. academically, it is a very good school. it's not too hard to get into (b- average), but it is still pretty prestigious.
-ucla. rated one of the best colleges in the world. it is nestled in the best part of la in westwood: santa monica to the left, bel-air right above it, and beverly hills/hollywood to the right. hard to get into as a freshman, but not too hard to get into as a transfer. (b+ average). MUCH better to go to as a california resident.
-pepperdine. it's in malibu and downright amazing. gorgeous campus and pretty religious. i knew a person who was kicked out for drinking alcohol, despite that he was over 21. still, people keep attending because they know that is still an amazing school to have said that you've graduated from.
-usc. it's in downtown la. it is surrounded by the worst parts of la, but the campus itself is safe and beautiful. plus, you can't beat the football (as a ucla bruin, i shouldn't be saying that!!). in my opinion, it is harder to get into and more prestigious than ucla, but ucla wins handsdown for location.
those are some of the main colleges in LA. there are dozens more in la, but those were the biggies. i didn't include the valley schools because honestly, who wants to move always over here from the east and live in the valley?
Q: What colleges (California Preferred) have the easiest requirements for a masters in Economics?
2.6 gpa in undergrad.
A: If you are looking for the easiest ones, you will never really understand economics.
Try the CSU schools. They tend to admit masters students. The better ones (UC, Stanford, UCLA) only accept PhD students.
Q: What are some good colleges in southern california to go to?
ill have a 3.0 gpa and i just wanna know what some good colleges are in california that aren't too hard to get into but still not a crappy college
A: There are a lot of excellent schools in Southern California, but a 3.0 won't get you in. UCLA, USC, Cal Tech, UC Irvine, the Claremont Colleges, Occidental College, LMU, Pepperdine, and probably the better CSUs (Cal Poly Pomona, CSULB, CSUN, etc.) would all require a much higher GPA. Your best bet would be to go to a good community college, like SMC or Pasadena City College, and transfer to a good school as a junior.
Q: Are there any mountain colleges in California?
I am looking to go to college in state b/c of the cost but so far I have had trouble finding any info on if there are colleges in the mtns here. I know that UC Riverside is pretty close to Big Bear & stuff & that some of the Northern California schools are near the Sierras but are there any IN the mountains or close to being in the mtns?
Thank you =)
A: Copper Mountain College?
Montana State-Bozeman, offers very good out of state scholarships.
Q: What are some of the greatest graphic design colleges in California?
I am looking to create MMORPGs and I don't know any colleges around California that I can go to. I have been trying to use this thing called Blender so I can practice for when I go to Graphic design school. The website for it is http://www.blender.org/ I am not wonderful at it, but I am still learning. If you could help, thanks! By the way, the MMORPGs that I play are EverQuest 2, World of Warcraft, and GuildWars. Those are the sort of games I would like to be creating, mostly EverQuest 2, I am in the fantasy sorta thing :-) Thanks a bunch :-)
A: just to let you know, not a lot of game companies look for graphic designers.... graphic designers are more into advertising industries.
Very good school for graphic designer is California State University, Long beach. They have one of the best reputations for graphic design.
If you want to get involved in Gaming, I would look more in to 3D design or character design.
From top of my head, OTIS College of Art is one of the best art schools in US. I heard time to time chracter designers get picked up by game companies such as EA, activision.. etc.
You need to know that graphic design is primarily concerned with 2D graphic, and in todays gaming, 2D isn't as imporatant as 3D. If you love drawing and creating new and exciting stuff, you should have a good chance in getting into the gaming industry. Also don't neglect the power of networking!
Start an internship in any game company that you can find... keep up your studies and at the right moment.. you'll achieve what you been working for.
Good luck.
Q: what are some good colleges in southern California?
i was wondering what colleges to apply for in Southern California if you have a gpa of around 3.7 and are in the top half of your class and in some honors classes?
What kind of grades and everything do you need to get into USC, UCLA or Pepperdine? also what testing do you need to take to get into a california college if you are from out of state?
A: Great question! I'm having the same issues.
UCLA is very, very good--- the best public school around! (but the criteria is high), not expensive for Californians, I've heard that the classes are filled with people
UCSC-- good, private, expensive
UC Santa Barbara-- pretty good, public
UC Davis-- okay
UC Irvine- okay
the 3.7 is pretty good, any AP classes-- those'll boost ya!
Take into account your SAT scores, voluteer work, essays, etc. too.
Good luck (and wish me some too)!
Q: do I have to write SAT 2 to go to colleges in California?
i am planning to take commerce, accountancy, economics and business math in my high school. But I would like to go to colleges in California. But i heard that all colleges there need SAT 2,which i will be not able to take with my high school subjects
A: 1) Anyone can take an SAT II - it is just a subject matter test and is designed for all high school students. For example if you have had high school Chem, and done well, you should be able to do well on the SAT II in Chem.
2) Do you mean public or private schools in CA? There are differences, and there is the state system and the UCal system, which are also different.
3) http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/ this collection of material from the government has most of what you need to know about college admissions requirements.
