Q: How can I get college tuition money without having to go through financial aid?
I want to go back to college in Nursing, Social Work or Teaching but I am ineligible for financial aid. Where can I get tuition assistance?
A: Fill out a FAFSA - even if you don't qualify for aid the government loans have the best interest rates. There are also private lenders like a good website.
I've found some good information here...

Good Luck.
Q: What is the likely outcome for not paying college tuition for dependent children?
I have the money to pay child support for one remaining child from a divorce, but I maybe not be able to continue college tuition for the one child base on my slowing and current economic conditions. Is paying for college a law or a court order?
A: Even if you stipped in writing, you can probably do a post-judgment hearing for a material change in circumstance and get it modified. Don't delay...
Q: Where can I find information on college tuition and the college for free issue?
Hi,
I'm doing a debate unit in ALA about whether or not college tuition should be free. I need some resources in order to do the project and was wondering if anyone had suggestions. Possible ideas are:
Education in Europe is mostly free. Can we get some numbers from them?
Essays about the topic or related ones.
Websites with an opinion or debate about the topic
And anything else that can help.
I'll gladly take any suggestions because I'm having a lot of trouble at the moment finding the sources of information.
Thanks so much!
A: Sure, I'll give you my opinion! I actually don't think college should be for free. If it were, I think it would be a rerun of high school except that it may be harder to get into. I think something has to be spoken of the individuals who are determined to get their degree and those who do so at the cost, literally of paying large sums of money to do so. In this day and age, when someone decides that they will shell out money to do something, they mean business and are for real. It also teaches students responsibility during that age and how valuable money actually is. This is the point that they become young professionals. Those who are strong enough will stay in the game. Those who aren't just aren't. I'd also like to point out that even without college being for free, there are many a ways that students can get involved in programs that will assist or even pay for the full tuition for students. There are scholarships, there are work-study programs.
Q: How does claiming college tuition work?
I am a college student. My father has paid all of my tuition so far. Now when it comes to taxes, is he able to claim that on his taxes without claiming me? How does it work? Him claiming me on taxes takes away a nice chunk of change from me but its all only because he paid college tuiton for me.
A: I don't know if that is possible. That isn't an educational expense for him if you are not listed on his taxes. I'm not positive, but I think you would have to be listed as a dependent for him to do that.
And yeah, it sucks for dependents, if you don't claim yourself, your refund gets reduced big time, but probably not as much if your father doesn't claim you. Might be one of those times you just bite the bullet and if the IRS audits him, kindly point them in his direction.
Q: Did Huckabee actually offer to give illegals free college tuition?
During the Republican debate,it was mentioned that Huckabee sponsored a law that would of gave illegal aliens free college tuition (paid by taxpayers)and he voted to ban tuition aid to our own veterans!.....This has to be the worst candidate if true.
A: Yes and people with views like him are destroying this country. They will keep coming having babies and we will continue to pay for health care and welfare and then tuition if he gets his way. Your right he is one of the worst candidates.
Q: Which state has the lowest cost for college tuition for out-of-state students?
I am an 18 year old male currently living in Florida. I am looking for the best deal on college tuition. I am willing to pay more in order to recieve a better education, but there is a cap of what I am willing to pay. Can anyone shed some light on my situation.
A: Don't be afraid of out-of-state tuition because after financial aid has been accounted for, you'd be amazed at how much the price can be reduced.
My financial aid package at my top choice college brought the tuition from almost $41,000 (room and board included) down to only about $13,000 and all I did was file the FAFSA. So don't be afraid of the sticker price you see at first (because as long as you fill out the FAFSA, it'll become a good price that's manageable).
Q: Are there any real government programs that help you pay for college tuition?
I'm finishing up my masters program and need to know of any private or government programs that will help pay for college tuition. Does anyone know of any good resources?
A: For pos graduate work I found interesting information about your answer, college loans, scholarships, & PARTIME WORKS here.http://all-student-loan-consolidation.blogspot.com/2007/08/part-time-jobs.htmlGood luck!
Q: How much does college tuition cost in the UK?
I am currently attending a 4-year university in the States, where tuition costs about $4500 per year in-state (excluding books & fees). However, my husband and I want to get out of America and relocate to Northern England, but we're not sure if we should wait until we graduate from the college we're at (it'd be another 3-4 years because my husband wants to go to grad school) or just say to heck with it, move, and finish school in the UK. Is there anybody out there currently attending university in England or Scotland? I would like any information at all about college life overseas, especially how much it costs, what the differences are from American colleges, and whether there are such things equivalent to "in-state" and "out-of-state" tuition and whatnot (Here that means you pay less if you have lived in the area for over a year and have residency, but cost is 3-6 times more if you just moved there). Is University less expensive if we apply for British citizenship (we plan to anyways)
A: i have no clue!!!!!!!!!!!!
Q: Does my mom need to claim me on her taxes to use my college tuition as a deduction?
I am 21 and my mother paid my tuition for college. So she is going to use that as a deduction. Does that mean she has to claim me even tho i don't live with her and she wouldn't get any other deductions because I am over 18?
A: Yes, you must be her dependent. Only then she can claim the tuition fee deduction.
Even you do not live with her and are over 18 she may meet the requirements to claim you.
A dependent can be your qualifying child or qualifying relative. For the requirements to claim a dependent (as your qualifying child or relative), read: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/03/requirements-for-claiming-dependent.html
Q: can i claim my college tuition as a deduction on my taxes?
every year i get a form from my college. can i claim the tuition as a deduction. i am single and non-dependant.
A: You have a couple of options. You can claim the tuition as a deduction or you may be able to claim a Hope Credit or a Lifetime Learning credit. The credit will give you a greater return. The Hope Credit can only be claimed for the first two years of your education and you must be pursuing an undergraduate degree. The Lifetime Learning credit is available for all years of post-secondary education and you don't have to be in a degree program.
Q: How to avoid paying for cell phone as one of the fees on my college tuition?
Starting 2 years ago, my college includes a mandatory cell phone for every college student. I am starting my 2nd year there. Last year, we were told that this phone is only mandatory for freshmen, and we can cancel it later on. The fee for it is included in the tuition, so even if you never pick up the phone from the office and never make a single phone call, you still have to pay for it. Last year, the price was $186 for the semester, which was OK with me. This year, they decided to charge everyone extra $210 MANDATORY fee for 7pm nights, unlimited texting, and unlimited calls to other Sprint users, and another mandatory $45 fee which we can use towards purchasing ringtones, wallpapers, etc. So it all adds up to $400 a semester! Last year I actually tried to purchase a ringtone from Spring store, and it was not possible unless registered for another monthly fee. How can I get out of paying for this? And is it legal for the university to impose such fees? It's a state college
A: That is outrageous!! I agree that you should talk to the registrar's office. Then, if that's not enough, go to Financial Aid. Are they really going to try to make the Federal gov't dole out grants, loans & scholarships so that students can pay this cel-phone fee? Tell them you're call 60 Minutes.
Not enough? Fax your congressman these details. Be sure to mention the impact on Financial Aid.
Sounds like an illegal reciprocity agreement - and a monopoly.
Q: Where do I go to help with the seach for college tuition?
when I go off to college at virginia tech, i am taking a major in history. how do i pay for my tuition raites in the 2011-12 school year when i get there?
A: or try to get scholarship my cousins have scholarship from virginia tech last year
Q: How much does it cost to take just one college class? Not the full tuition, just the one class. ?
I know college tuition is expensive, but how much does each individual class cost?
A: Depends on whether it's private undergrad college or public undergrad college. Private is usually three to four times more money per credit. Other factor is how many credits for that class. Graduate level classes may cost the same or more.
If we're talking about the average class of 3 credits, at public undergrad college, it would be roughly $400. For private undergrad, roughly $3,000.
Costs vary between colleges, and what department class.
Q: What is AVERAGE college tuition for 1 year?
It doesn't matter what college, can you tell me the AVERAGE price of tuition for 1 year of college.
A: If you are a California resident and attend one of the California State University campuses, it costs under $1700 per semester to take 12 units or more. That is quite a bargain.
If you attend one of the UC schools (Berkeley, UCLA, etc.), they are on the quarter system and cost more, somewhere in the range of $2500-3000 a quarter.
If you attend one of California's junior colleges for the first two years, the cost is a few hundred dollars a semester.
