Q: College Textbooks ?
I was wondering how do you know what textbooks you need for college. Like after you sign up for your classes or what.

A: Just get a list of your classes and go to the bookstore. You can find books based on the course codes, etc. and workers at the bookstore can help you the first time. It's good to go early before class because you can find used books (they're usually gone after you get your syllabus) and those are often up to $50 cheaper than new. Don't waste your money on new books unless you have to! It really makes no difference! Also, it's nice to get your books and not have to wait in line for hours. During the first week of school, the bookstore will be PACKED.

Q: Is 90 pages of college textbooks too much to read in one week?
My unconventional college assigns students approximately 90 pages from the textbooks each week .I try to read it all, but end up skimming when it is crunch time. Do you think it is too much? If not, what reading strategies do you recommend.

A: I recommend a speed reading course. It worked for me. Then you'll be able to handle 90 pages A DAY in more conventional graduate programs.

Q: Where can i find cheap college textbooks?
Does anyone know where i can buy new or used college textbooks? How much time does it take to be shipped?

A: Try searching for your books on http://www.bigwords.com . They are a search engine website that finds you the best possible price for your books. They even let you choose the ship time and then calculate the lowest price using the right shipping type at every store where you find your books. its cool to cause they compare many items at once, and calculate the best combination of stores to buy at, including coupons and shipping. Then they also let you include or exclude international editions, and even renting is an option through them! Check out and see if it helps you out.

Q: I'm searching for college textbooks online and am having trouble finding the ones I need. Any suggestions?
I'm looking for college textbooks online and everything I try, it says that it has no matches for what I type in. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to type in the books I'm looking for?

A: I all ways find that using a search engine based web site that searches for textbooks over hundreds of sites work the best. One of the best ones out there is http://www.bigwords.com. The reason I think they're the best is that they compare many items at once, and calculate the best combination of stores to buy at, including coupons and shipping. They also let you include or exclude international editions, and even renting is an option through them. They let you choose the ship time and then calculate the lowest price using the right shipping type at every store. Totally worth the check out.

Q: Where can I sell my college Textbooks back for the most $$?
I have college textbooks that the university made new editions of. The prices I paid are rediculouse, and they want to give me crap for them back. I've been to a few online book trader websites, but which ones are the BeST? Thanks! PS: We're getting screwed with book prices! Let's change it!

A: either Amazon.com or ebay

Q: Where can I donate old college textbooks?
My bookstore wont accept them. I dont want to go through the hassle of selling anything on amazon or ebay. Ive tried listing them for free for other college students but its been over a year and they are still taking up space in my closet. I dont want to throw them away but what specific organization can I give them to that would be a right fit? I don't want to burden Goodwilll with them since I dont think they will sell something like a geography textbook. Any suggestions?

A: My guess would be a used book store, or try asking one of your professors. They ought to know if anyone.

Q: what is the price range of college textbooks?
im starting college this fall and of course everyone talks about how expensive textbooks are. i know prices range by subject and whether or not it is used but can someone give me an idea of what im going to be spending.

A: depends on how many books you need to buy, the classes, etc..I know that my school book store sells books and supplies with the prices jacked up (and they only pay you 1/5 of what you paid if you return your book to resell it). I would suggest going online (amazon, half.com, places like that) because even including shipping it can be cheaper. I would say if you're taking 12 credits, expect to pay a couple hundred dollars for books (even used). It can be tough to pay for them, but if you look around, you can find good deals. This sem. I'm taking 21 credits and payed just over $400...but it was cheaper (including shipping) to get it online than at school. Good luck in school!

Q: Which is better an instructor versus student copy of college textbooks?
I have located a cheap version of a college textbook which is 66% cheaper than the student's version. Is there a major difference between the two?

A: The instructor's version contains answers to the questions, and suggestions for in-class activities or talking points. If you think having the answers readily available will tempt you to cheat or not do the work, or you think the extra material will distract you, then don't buy it. If you're not willing to do the work and learn the material, then you're wasting your money on college.

Q: Where can I find a good website to get cheap college textbooks?
PLease help! College is gettin gmore expensive and I cant keep buying 100 dollar text books especially if Im taking five classes a semester! It would be great and I would be grateful for anyone who has a great website to find reasonable textbook prices! Thanks in advance

A: www.campusi.com is a website that compares textbook prices for ALL online bookselling sites (ie amazon, half.com, ebay, etc) and gives you the lowest. I use it ALL the time! What I like to do is email the professor before the semester starts to get the book title, author, edition, and ISBN number. Then I order them a couple weeks in advance so that I can pay the cheapest shipping and have them ready by the time school starts. Also, make sure you check to see if your library already has them before purchasing.

Q: Is there a way to get college textbooks for free / cheap ?
can i use textbooks in digital format for college ? If yes , where can digital textbooks for free ?

A: try the school book store ,they should have used books for sale.try contacting the publisher, check school bulletin boards this time of year they should be filled with offers of used books for sale. the use of textbooks in digital format is up to the individual collage.

Q: Would you rent your college textbooks for half the price?
I am doing a survey. Would you rent your college textbooks for 10 dollars a month? Would you pay a secuiry deposit of 50 dollars (like an appartment) and get it back after the book was returned? You are free to write in the book, but it must be returned in fair condition.

A: It depends on the book... if it's over $40 or so, I'd rent it, since a semester usually isn't more than 4 months. That would save me a lot of money... I wouldn't mind paying a security deposit, either, as long as I knew that I was guaranteed to get the full thing back after I turn the book back in. This idea would really help some of the students who scrape up change to buy ramen and shop for everything at the dollar store (me included).

Q: What do you do if you can't afford college textbooks?
Hello, What do you do if you can't afford college textbooks? They're just so expensive. I've choosen 6 classes and all the books that I have to buy are about $1000! Just can't afford them! Do you think it is Okay to borrow from the library? Or it is better to copy from my classmates? Or... Need your help! Thank you!!!

A: Try finding used copies. It'll save you a lot of money.

Q: What can be done with old college textbooks (about 4-6 years old)? ?
Have a lot of old textbooks from a few years back. Spent a good few hundred bucks to a grand on them. Are there any places that resell used college textbooks? Donation is an option though would ideally like to have something back.

A: I have been successful selling my college textbooks on amazon.com. However, most of mine are in the current edition. Check amazon for the current edition of your book. It will give you a guideline to see if the older editions are still being used. I recently had to purchase a book and the newest edition was going for $80 while the older editions were only going for $10. Obviously no one was using the older edition. If you do fee the need to donate your books, make sure you get a tax-credit receipt. Good luck!
