Q: How should I go about my college search? Any advice?
I'm currently a junior, but I want to start my college search before it's too late. However, I'm not too sure how to go about it. I want an out-of-state college that's affordable, and offers psychology as a major. I just don't know where to begin, since that's still pretty broad. How did you find your current college? What search methods did you use?

A: The best resource out there is www.collegeboard.com. This provides an immense wealth of resources and even plans for applying and getting into college. If you need it, it will be there. Also, look to scholarships.com and fastweb.com for scholarships. When you find a college that interests you, you should go to that college's website and learn all that you can about the institution. Good luck!

Q: Looking for a college search website?
I'm looking for a site that might help me in my college search. I have a general idea of what I'm looking for but I don't know what colleges to look at. Is there any website that can help me narrow down my choices?

A: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/index.jsp

Q: I'm on a college search and I would like to study abroad--Anyone have any suggestions where I should go?
help me decide where i should go and why! Thanks! Thanks for the suggestions so far but I would also like to know of a good college to go that has study abroad programs and any tips or anything from people who have participated in one themselves. Thanks!

A: New Zealand. My best friend's sister went and LOVED it.

Q: College Search: Management/Marketing schools within driving distance of NYS/NYC?
I want a school with good programs in either management or marketing. Some specifics to the type of college are: Strong internship programs, city setting, lacrosse team (D1, D2, or D3), and a high employment rate right out of school. Thanks

A: You can find top listings of management and marketing college courses in this site - collegefinder.my-age.net It also has info about each, tips to apply and which salary should you expect (to comparison)

Q: I am a recent college graduate in search of a job. Any ideas?
I have a BA in International Studies. I am certified in German, I have studied abroad and have great working experience (i.e. worked my way to manager while attending college full-time). Do you have any ideas on what I can do, to even get an interview?

A: First of all, congratulations on graduating! That's an accomplishment and now starts the real deal...utilizing your experiences and putting them to the test. What you need to do is go to your local library and check out books related to resume-building and writing. Or you can buy one, which ever is affordable. The reason is, that there are some great tips to make your resume and the experiences you recieved in college to really stand out from other applicants. Invest in 2-3 suits, pant suits and skirt suits. And dark pumps. You want to get as many interviews as possible, as well as job offers. Utilize resources. Scan career boards-Careerbuilder, Monster.com, Yahoojobs, your local newspaper and submit resumes and cover letters. Look and research on your job market in your city...and other cities...are you open for relocation? Your job offers will be increased if relocation is an option. I wish you the best in your career search. Stay optimistic and positive!

Q: I am a college student in search of a volunteer abroad program for spring break.?
I am searching for something that could possibly be a week long opportunity or so, and is reasonable cheap (I understand that volunteer programs often do charge volunteers to participate). Any suggestions?

A: *This* Spring Break? Dude, you have waited WAY too late... There is a listing of the more-than-30 member organizations of the International Volunteers Program Association (IVPA) that is a good place to find reputable volunteer-for-a-fee programs -- programs where you don't need to have much experience in order to participate, and the placements are just for a few weeks or months: http://www.volunteerinternational.org/ You can also try United For Sight. The goal of Unite For Sight and its partner eye clinics and communities is to create eye disease-free communities. "While helping the community, volunteers are in a position to witness and draw their own conclusions about the failures and inequities of global health systems. It broadens their view of what works, and what role they can have to insure a health system that works for everyone..." This program was featured on CNN International. Volunteers, both skilled and unskilled, are 18 years and older, and there is no upper age limit. It is obligatory for accepted volunteers to purchase insurance coverage through Unite for Sight's recommended provider, and volunteers are responsible for all travel arrangements, visa vaccine requirements, lodging, airfare, food, and any additional expenses. http://www.uniteforsight.org/intl_volunteer/ The American Hiking Society sponsors several excellent volunteer vacations every year, constructing or rebuilding footpaths, cabins and shelters in some of the USA's most beautiful spots. http://www.americanhiking.org/events/vv/index.html Sierra Club volunteer vacations help to state and federal land agencies. Service trips range from helping with research projects at whale calving grounds in Maui to assisting with archaeological site restoration in New Mexico. http://www.sierraclub.org/outings/national/service.asp Habitat for Humanity has activities all over the country. Q: How do you search for the college for you without all the hassel?
Its so many colleges and so little time and for the most part they all talk a good talk. So what is the secret to cutting your college choices. I would like to major in Accounting some where. However everyone always says "oh our accounting program is the best" so its like wow who do you choose if everyone is the best.

A: it's all about fit... do they have your major, do you feel comfortable on campus, can you see yourself living in the residence halls, etc. the easiest way to make those choices is by visiting campus. you'll see what the campus is like, meet some other students, etc. see if the schools you are interested in have overnight programs where you can really experience college life. maybe you can even rule some out based on cost, although you shouldn't let that hinder your decision to choose a college... maybe distance from home, whether or not they have clubs/activities/sports that you like, etc. good luck to you!

Q: Why fertility clinics search for college students to donate their eggs?
What is so special about college students? hahaha good one billy

A: Supply and demand. College students are poor and need money. People who buy eggs (at up to 20 grand a pop) will pay more for the eggs (genes) of a college student or someone with a higher degree because they think the child will be smarter. As another person crassly mentioned college students also tend to be more attractive since more of them come from the middle class where braces and after school athletics are part of everyone's lives.

Q: Tips on Motivating a HS Junior about college search?
She is already in moody teen communication shutdown mode a lot of the time. Of course, we understand the growing up issues she is going through...However, the real world doesn't really care about her growing up issues when it comes to the state of competitiveness for college admissions today. Any advice? Thanks!

A: $$$$$$$ (lol jk) The only way its gonna be a worthwhile experience is if she is trying for herself. Find something she is interested in and use that as the hook to get her to take her generals. Even a degree in underwater basket weaving needs to fulfill the general requirements. If she goes and tries and changes her major she is still half done already. Sometimes getting an unmotivated student in school is actually worse for them. They will get a F GPA and come back a few years later and regret having ever attended. I recomend going to the community collge if they arnt motivated because (at least in my state) The GPA does not transfer to the university. Only the credits do. I hated the idea of going to college. I was beyond unmotivated to go i was the anti college until i decided to go back. I was in business for myself for 4 years (investments and real estate) before i went back. I was 26 when i went back and I am kinda glad i waited. I'm absorbing the information much better than these 18 year old young pups. Not going to college right away is not the end of the world.

Q: Can anyone recommend a good website to search for college tuition grants/scholarships?
A lot of websites come up when I search on yahoo and google. Some don't look so legitimate and a lot of them you have to pay to access so I'm a little worried about getting duped. Are there any websites that are trustworthy/legitimate (if there’s such a thing)?

A: Fastweb.com and brokescholar.com are great. Make sure to fill out the application correctly. http://www.ehow.com/how_2285001_fill-out-government-grant-application.html

Q: What website has the best advanced criteria search for college?

A: I am not sure what you mean, but this website helped me a lot with my college search: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/rankindex_brief.php

Q: I am looking for a good College Search Engine?
Something that matches you to colleges based on SAT/ACT scores, majors, locations, etc... NOT collegeboard.com, i don't really care for that one. Also, My Major is Marine Biology, but i am going to Med School, so if you know of any schools with a good marine bio program, that'd be nice too... Thanks!

A: . I can't imagine that I/we could find something for you that you haven't already discovered! ...and rejected. I imagine you've Googled 'Marine Biology" and 'match colleges' or something similar. Maybe you can go right to the source, the places that employ your speciality? Of course Woods Hole comes to mind @ http://jobs.whoi.edu/ ; "... (508)289-2253 " . How about a marine bio 'Bulletin Board' @ http://mb.sparknotes.com/mb.epl?r=1&b=18&m=676746&t=138744 . THEY would have more answers than Yahoo! "...Biological scientists held about 77,000 jobs in 2004. Slightly more than half of all biological scientists were employed by Federal, State, and local governments. Federal biological scientists worked mainly for the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Interior, and Defense and for the National Institutes of Health. Most of the rest worked in scientific research and testing laboratories, the pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing industry, or hospitals. "

Q: College Search - I am looking for a college for my daughter.?
She is currently attending a local community college having just graduated from high school in June 2008. She wants a New England or Atlantic college that offers a Culinary Arts Degree program within a traditional college setting - dorms, student organizations, meal plan. We have not had much luck in finding this type of environment that also offers the Culinary program.

A: Johnson & Wales University should be of help. They have a Providence, R.I. campus with the setting you describe. My website is in spanish, but I can provide you with more info. Tuition is around $23k and living expenses are close to $10k. JWU offers financial aid and allows you to pay monthly. She can get a AA first and a B.A. in two more years. Best of luck

Q: Schools that have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Engineering? A college major search engine?
Instead of double majoring, it'd be so much easier if I could go to a school that has this major. However, so far, I have only found one school that offers it, and that is Ohio State University. Anyone know a search engine that could help me find schools with this major (NOT fastweb.com, I already tried that)? Thank you!

A: collegeboard.com Use the college matchmaker, they ask you for the major, location, amount you are willing to pay for tuition etc. http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/adv_typeofschool.jsp

Q: What it the best place to search for Grants for College, how do i access them?
Resently I have gone to college to better my education in the computer industry. Though i am having issues trying to find money to pay for it. While loans are good Grants are better. Anyone know of any good grant programs out there, and how do I get to them?

A: Use the site below for specific information. I will note that the application deadline is past for the federal grants; however, one may submit an application after December 31, 2007... (unless it's changed...and if it has...drop me a note...I need to apply for it, too). KEEP ON A LEARNIN'
